Flying Aces Reincarnation Dec 2003
Recently I've wanted a plane to test various equipment including any micro brushless outrunner motor I might build worth putting in a plane. This plane has enough wing area to carry a M20 or larger size motor around, and the ~2g Phoenix 10 brushless controller. So, I've begun the process to resurect the plane. I built this plane before I was into contest balsa. So, I'm sure I could build the wing lighter than its ~6.5g covered weight. But, I was interested in a quick build. I did make the elevator and rudder again using contest balsa and lightening holes. The fuselage will be 3.8mm Wes CF tube for light weight and simplicity. Equipment will be mounted on a Depron sheet between the LE and TE wing pylons.
More to come ...
Plane Status as of November 2001
This is a plane I built from RC Microflight plans and finished back in October 2001. Original equipment was a GWS R4P receiver, two Wes 3.0 servos, a Firefly 4:1 motor, and 120x5 NiMH cells. It flew great, but at the third indoor session I flew it at, a receiver glitch caused it to get lots of elevator and fly up to the ceiling of the gym, where it hit an air conditioner unit. The magnet mounted wing popped off and fluttered down. The fuselage was destroyed. I never put it back together, but kept the wing.
