Text Box: The biennial convention in Phoenix in June was all Gamma Phi Betas could ask for and more. There was a treasure trove of ideas and enthusiasm. Linda Rosebaugh Neill and I will try to apply some of those to the KC alumnae chapter. There was pride in seeing one of our members, Linda Lyons Maloney, re-elected as Membership Vice President to serve on International Council. KC was lucky to have several other members in attendance: former grand president Audrey Weldon Shafer, her daughter Alison Shafer Bond who was transplanted from St. Louis to KC, Foundation workers Tucky Wheeler Hobbs and Sharon Burke Vickers, Sigma recruitment advisor Sally Ramseyer Beck, and Regional Coordinators Dena Brayley and Meghann Reed Lehn. It was great to see former Kansas Citian Judy Wilkins Schumann, who was part of Team Phoenix which made this convention happen.
Kansas City won the award for Excellence in Public Relations, for which I give a rousing cheer to Bev Bailey Lang who chairs marketing and public relations for the Antiques, Garden & Home Design Show. Speaking of the Show, it will happen October 12-14, 2006 in the new exhibition space at the Overland Park International Trade Center at the location where the Show has been for all the years I have been in KC.
My apologies for the lateness of the spring newsletter. We have a new printer these days, and my expectations are high that the printing and mailing go more smoothly in 2006-07. The newsletter is always available on the KC website at www.kcgammaphibeta.org. We are starting a “Keeping in Touch” feature which will replace the Passages list in the newsletter and will be an addition to the news available on the website. Your help is needed to keep this spot current with both positive and sad news about sisters. If you know of a new baby, a marriage, a new sister arriving in town, scheduled surgeries or hospital stays, or deaths, let Kim Weyand Reisinger, corresponding secretary, or me know. Our phone numbers are located on the website.
Remember to pay your dues. They are only $35, with $10 staying in KC to cover local expenses. And, you will receive a copy of the directory with current names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for the 1,274 Gamma Phi Betas in the KC area. In May there was a very successful young alumnae happening, and I am looking forward to seeing all those young ladies at the Fall Kickoff at Nancy Hansen Jones’ home on September 12th and the Trade Center during the Show, either attending or, better yet, working a shift.
Here’s to a fabulous and fun-filled 2006-07. It is great to be a Gamma Phi!!
