a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these
things, so that those who have trusted in God may be
careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These
things are excellent and profitable for everyone. 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.... 24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' 9And he made known to
us the mystery of his will according to his good
pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to be
put into effect when the times will have reached their
fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth
together under one head, even Christ. 4John, 18This is how the birth
of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged
to be married to Joseph, but before they came together,
she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because
Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want
to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to
divorce her quietly. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 3Praise be to the God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us
in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in
Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the
creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his
sight. In love 5he predestined us to be
adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance
with his pleasure and will-- 6to the praise of
his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the
One he loves. 7In him we have redemption
through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance
with the riches of God's grace 8that he
lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9And
he made known to us the mystery of his will according to
his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to
be put into effect when the times will have reached their
fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth
together under one head, even Christ. 15He is the image of
the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For
by him all things were created: things in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers
or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him
and for him. 17He is before all things, and in
him all things hold together. 18And he is the
head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the
firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he
might have the supremacy. 19For God was
pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and
through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether
things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace
through his blood, shed on the cross. 5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 20Therefore no one will
be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law;
rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. 18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. 3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 5he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.... 9You, however, are
controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if
the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not
have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But
if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin,
yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And
if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is
living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will
also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit,
who lives in you. 11"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 8"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." 1You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? 3Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? 4Have you suffered so much for nothing--if it really was for nothing? 5Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard? 7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. 1Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 12The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." 1As a prisoner for the
Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the
calling you have received. 2Be completely
humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another
in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity
of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There
is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to
one hope when you were called-- 5one Lord, one
faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of
all, who is over all and through all and in all. 20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." 37When the people heard
this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and
the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 11In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. 16Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? 17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. 23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 11 You have made known
to me the path of life; 1Now we know that if
the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a
building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built
by human hands. 2Meanwhile we groan, longing
to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, 3because
when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4For
while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened,
because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed
with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be
swallowed up by life. 5Now it is God who has
made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit
as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 19"There was a
rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and
lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was
laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and
longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even
the dogs came and licked his sores. 28"Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned." 27For as lightning that
comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will
be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever
there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. 9After he said this, he
was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him
from their sight. Read more of the Bible at http://www.biblegateway.com/ |
