Model Railroading
Construction 8: Bridges 2
|
After doing much research, I found that guard rails are very
common on bridges, so I decided to install them on my new bridge. here are some
pictures showing the inner guard rails in place. The rails I used are old,
rusty, rails from like 20 years ago that I had from an 18" radius
circle (my first railroad). I removed the ties and super glued the rails (after
bending them as appropriate) to the ties. I glued them on top of the inner
spikes on my code 100 track (the old track was code 100 also) so that the guard
rails are a little higher than the outer rails (which is prototypically correct
according to my research).

Here is a profile shot of a railcar on the bridge - note the height
difference on the guard rail.

Here was my first attempt at setting the trusses in place. I removed
them and restarted it from the tunnel end after breaking several
supports when i bumped the bridge, it needs more shoring before I get to
the middle.
|

Re-started from the end, shoring up as I go.
|

This is a good shot to show the scale of the bridge to the rail cars.

Here is the bridge after some more work - About 2/3 of the way there....

|

Here is an idea of what it will look like when done. I cut and added some
planks for a maintenance walkway on the side. I'm still not sure
if should have the double planks or single, they're about 21"
wide scale.
