Colder Spark Plugs
Now we are getting into some
very basic but perhaps advanced areas of difference between a Naturally
Aspirated engine and Forced Induction.
Using colder heat range plugs is an important step when converting to
run FI. To spare some details, however,
most of us are using NGK-TR6 spark plugs. They are 2 heat
ranges colder than the stock spark plug recommended for the L36-II engine. A common gap that most Powerdyne folks are
runnig is .035. This author has had great success with these plugs and this gap
setting when combined with premium fuel (92 octane in my area) and a 6-psi
blower. I would continue to run these
plugs and the .035 gap if I were to run a 9-psi pulley.
You should be able to find these plugs for about $3 each. They are not often stocked at local parts stores but your neighborhood store should be able to order them or you can also find them on the Internet. This is one such online store…. http://ngk.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/40952/TR6
That was a direct link to the plugs and if that page changes here is a link to the same stores home page. http://www.carshopinc.com/index.php?osCsid=c0fdb5ab389fb7d0d7be29acfc20caec
BEWARE: Sadly, some of the stores specializing in L36 performance parts are charging upward of $12 for a single NGK-TR6 plug…so shop around.
