Vortech
6/1 ratio FMU:
Supplied with ¼” high pressure fuel hoses
and unknown connectors. (they should be
one male and one female gm quick disconnect fittings) (Also note that the ¼”
hoses are incorrect…they should be 5/16”…have fun replacing connectors.)
Vac hoses
One way check valve: This little thingy blocks ‘vacuum’ pressure
from reaching the fmu. Think of it as
helping to keep the FMU pressurized (positive boost) while shifting gears.
Oil
pressure sender relocate fitting. This
should be a 45 degree male/female 3/8” npt fitting.
The
most popular items for people to ‘lose’ when selling their Powerdyne kit are:
The 45 degree oil pressure sender elbow,
(buy local auto parts store or
HERE… ) the IAT sensor grommet www.gmpartsdirect.com # 24504388 and the ‘S’ shaped mounting bracket. (make your
own) Some people also seem to lose the one way check valve. (napa)

Basic differences between the two model year kits:
1993-97: Crane ignition timing retard
module: This is spliced into your
ignition control system and it overrides PCM to retard timing based on BOOST
LEVEL and a slectable number on the unit.
It has a dial that retards 2 degrees per every ‘click’ on the dial for
every one pound of boost. Most everyone
skips installing this unit and relies on premium grade fuel (92 octane) as well
as colder spark plugs (ngk tr6 gapped
at .035) when running the 6psi
pulley. If upgrading to a smaller
pulley and running greater than 6psi then timing should most likely be altered.
(retarded) This can be done with an
external device such as the crane module or with tuning software.
BD11A blower unit mounted with the scroll
pointed sideways. (horizontally) Kit includes a metal discharge tube specifically
made for the angled throttle body.
1999=2001: Crane TRC1(?) This is a different timing retard module than supplied with the earlier model year kit. They are not compatible with each other. The basic ignition systems and PCM’s are somewhat different between the two basic L36 model year groups. The same goes for this unit as well….you don’t really need it if running 6psi or less and using 92 octane fuel and colder ngk tr6 spark plugs. It is just another link in the system that could fail or cause random problems with the ignition system. Extremely high temp regions such as southern desert may need to retard timing due to high intake air temperatures, however.
BD11A
blower unit mounted with the scroll pointed straight up. (vertically) Kit includes a metal discharge tube specifically made for the straight
throttle body.
Things
to remember to buy for the big install:
Teflon thread tape (oil pressure sender)
Small
Zip ties… for running/securing vac lines as well as custom vac line crimp collars.
Throttle
body gasket (for performing TB PCV plug mod)
RTV
silicone sealer
Two
extra hex nuts for ‘doubling up’ on the main blower mounting plate.
Thin
steel plate for oil filter guard while installing blower.
Fuel
injection rated hose clamps for any rubber fuel hose modifications. Use the appropriate size…3/8” for feed lines
and 5/16” for return lines.
