Bruce Greenwald
Executive Director
Alto Sax, Soprano Sax, Clarinet, Flute
Bruce spent four exciting years at West Chester University performing with jazz bands and "The Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band." After graduating with a Music Education degree in 1977, he spent a year teaching music in Virginia. Bruce became involved in computer science and now enjoys great success as a Staff Systems Architect for the Lockheed Martin Corporation, but his life's ambition remains having as many different musical experiences as possible, including recording a CD. To fulfill this dream, Bruce founded the Jazz Explosion in 1994 and one of its satellite bands, Dixie on the Side, in 1995. Bruce also performs with the Jazz Explosion's Jazz Quintet, musical theater orchestras, and has been the principal clarinetist and assistant director of the Valley Forge Symphony Orchestra. Bruce has been seen soloing at the Mellon Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, and even performed with the Big Easy Dixieland Band on a paddlewheel riverboat cruising down the Mississippi River in New Orleans. He performs with the WCU Alumni Marching Band and Criterions Jazz Ensemble Reunion Band at every opportunity. Somehow, Bruce still finds time to enjoy family life with his wife Heidi, and daughters Lynne and Andrea. What's next? Bruce is still looking for that big band cruise. Destination? Maybe Newport!

David Meyerson
Alto Sax, Clarinet
David grew up across the Hudson from NYC. His mother taught piano and his father played sax, so being involved in music was a given. David wanted to play sax but was "directed" to the clarinet at age 8, which he played until he "remembered" the sax two years later. David chose psychology over music in college, but nevertheless played in the Rutgers' Wind and Clarinet Ensembles as the rare non-major. He put aside his horns during seven years of grad school at the University of Iowa. Soon after earning his Ph.D. in psychology, David joined the 20-piece big band "CR Jazz." He returned to Pennsylvania in 1995 to begin a private practice in psychology and joined AJE soon after. Classically trained but a lover of the blues, David says, "jazz is my happy medium, and playing music is my own best therapy."

Tim Vattima
Tenor Sax
In second grade, when his best friend Michael Dempsey took up the flute, Tim ran home and said "Mommy, I wanna play the flute"...the rest is history. Although he still plays flute in church, weddings, and the occasional Jazz double, Tim's musical passion is the saxophone. Anthony Ceferatti, his cousin and only music teacher he's has ever had, handed Tim an alto saxophone in 4th grade and said, "Here, try this...". From that time, Tim aspired to be a jazz performer and had planned to major in music in college. That was not to be, but Tim enjoys a career as a Software Architect at BankOne Corporation. Throughout his under-graduate work at West Chester University, Tim earned first tenor all four years and was the only non-music major in the West Chester University Criterions Jazz Band, much to the chagrin of the aspiring sax-majors. Now as a member of the Jazz Explosion, Tim is now fulfilling his musical ambition of playing in a top-notch jazz band. Outside of music, Tim's time is consumed with his passion for computers, Legos, and his sons' Ice Hockey. Tim loves his music but not as much as his wife Jen and his two sons Christopher and Brandon.

Scott Porreca
Bari Sax, Clarinet, Flute
Operations Director
Scott started playing clarinet at age ten. His parents were surprised that he progressed past Hot Cross Buns. Scott added tenor saxophone at LaSalle College High School, where he played in the stage and concert bands, and the jazz and pep bands at LaSalle University. While in high school, he also studied clarinet at the Jenkintown Music School, which enabled him to play in the PMEA district and regional bands. At the University of Delaware, Scott played in jazz and symphonic bands and also the Wilmington Music School Scholarship Jazz Band. After earning a B.S. in Engineering, Scott played in pit orchestras for high schools, colleges, and community theaters. Scott is an original member of AJE, although he switched from alto to tenor sax in 1997 and tenor to bari in 1999. A versatile player, he can be heard on flute at the beginning of "Time After Time." A newlywed, Scott thanks his wife, Michele, for her support and for sharing him with his music.
