WELL TEMPERAMENT
Personally, I’ve found tuning pianos to 12 note = mean tone to be a horrid waste of time considering the inevitable cacophony of t= he multi-course string of the modern factory piano. Nor did I want to commit m= yself to restringing a piano for a limited just intonation instrument.
Years after I had given up experimenting with tuning pianos, Siem Terpstra sent = me a leaflet on Thomas Young’s well temperament #1.
Although, it looks impossible on paper that just alter= ing the tunings by a few cents, that Young’s well temperament will cut out the rough edges and restlessness of 12 equal.
The cents deviations from 12et are:
