Movies & Shows

Okay, I admit it. I sometimes have way too much free time on my hands. These are some shows and movies that I like to watch or have seen that I like a bunch. This can also be known as "Brain Candy"

Movies

Science Fiction is my major interest but I like other styles, too. Some of my favorite flicks include:

(just the first and third films) - a great low-budget movie that later inspired not one, but two television series. Storyline relates to a race of Immortals who live and move silently through time until there is only one left. They can only die if they are decapitated, thus releasing their "Quickening" or lifeforce/essence that is absorbed by another Immortal. The last Immortal wins the "Prize," which could either aid humanity greatly if the Immortal is good, or cast humanity into another Dark Ages if the Immortal is evil.

Hey, think about it. Sean Connery, a Scotsman playing an Egyptian/Spaniard and Christopher Lambert, a Belgie playing a Scotsman (by the way, he almost never blinks), swords, bad guys, sex, immortality, what's not to like about this???

<Well, the second movie did bite the big one. Aliens from the Planet Ziest??? To quote some people who saw this and had the humor not to demolish the movie screen (btw, this did happen at a movie theather in Washington, DC), "I'm a Freeman from the Planet Ziest and I am Ziestfully clean!" and "What the f&#$ is Ziest?!">

Tim Burton's: The Nightmare Before Christmas

nbc cover

Oscar-nominated stop-motion animation. Basically, it's the story of where the holidays come from and what would happen if one of the holidays found out about the other holidays. Click here for a web page devoted to this film that pulls off an incredible feat of love.

Beetlejuice

Another Tim Burton movie. Michael Keaton as the "Ghost with the most" who's a bio-exorcist (he gets rid of them nasty, livin' critters). The movie later spawned a cartoon series.

Last I heard, there's a rumor about a movie sequel. If it happens, I'm there...

I liked the character so much, I even won an award for recreating him on stage. Exhausting character to do, but such a blast!

Interview with the Vampire

If you've checked out my comics page, you would already know that I really liked the comic book adaptations of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. This movie adaptation was no exception. And to think, all the bisexual-sexual bookstore clerks across the country didn't think Tom Cruise could pull off doing Lestat. <inside joke, e-mail me and I'll let you in on the punchline>

More to come...

Movie is due to open in theaters on February 22, 2002. I'm there ...

Update 2/24/02:

I was there. I liked it, a whole lot!

Understandably, the "story" had to be trunciated to keep it from being a mini-series, but on the whole they did a decent job. A bit weak on the other ancient vampires, but they weren't the main focus of the story.

Stuart Townsend (Lestat) will easily make you forget that Tom Cruise ever played the same character. He nailed the "Brat Prince" and rock star aspect of Lestat.

Keen!!!!

Blade

Vampires, sunblock, martial arts, dirty tricks. Gods, I loved this movie. Can't wait until the next sequel comes out.

*2nd sequel currently in production

blade DVD cover Tracy Lords

Now where did I put that anti-couagulant?

The Matrix

matrixDo not wait. You must go and buy this movie. If you have a DVD player, it is moral imperative that you must own this movie. The premise of this movie will totally blow your mind. The DVD version has so many extra "goodies" that it isn't even funny. Just follow the white rabbit...

View Askew Universe

(Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)

Yes, I know I look like Kevin Smith (a.k.a. Silent Bob, and the mastermind behind View Askew). It's low-brow, but such a guilty pleasure to watch. :-)
