Whats happening with baby this week:
February 19th 2004 - February 25th

Your baby is now 11 inches from head to toe or about 20cm crown to rump and hovering around the one pound (500g) mark. Your baby's lungs have begun to develop surfactant, a substance that will help his or her lungs to expand after birth. The fingernails are now completely formed. The body is becoming better proportioned each day, and the bones of the middle ear begin to harden. If born now, your baby has a chance for survival. Let's hope, however, that the baby stays put for several more weeks!

Whats happening with mommy this week:

I think I'm starting to finally feel the baby move. I was sitting at the computer and felt what felt like little muscle spasms down low in my abdomen. I've yet to feel these “little butterfly flutters” everyone keeps telling me about. But then, who knows, it could all just be gas! I've been a little more uncomfortable lately. And, lucky me, I'm out of that “free from the bathroom” second trimester wonderful time. I'm back to getting up two times a night instead of one for a bathroom trip. I also can barely wait for my breaks at work now before I run to my "office" at work. I work in a building with 17 floors, and I can tell you every detail of every bathroom on every floor, right down to which floor has the softest bathroom tissue! I've been thinking a lot lately. On my walks in the morning to the bus stop, I keep thinking about how slow I'm getting walking to my bus stop. I think about how I still have 4 long months of this and it's just going to keep getting more and more uncomfortable. But on the other hand I'm just amazed that in just 4 short months we are going to have a whole new little human in the house. I anticipate this with great joy and great fear. Is this possible?
