Whats happening with baby this week:
May 27th 2004 - June 2nd

Gaining one ounce per day, your baby is growing rapidly. At six pounds and measuring 33cm crown to rump, or 17 1/2 inches head to toe, this little baby is getting pretty big. The baby may have settled down into your pelvis. While this process, called ‘lightening’ or ‘engagement,’ may make it easier to breathe and eat, you may find walking uncomfortable. Now that the baby is crowding the bladder, you will be urinating more frequently. The baby practices breathing movements preparing for life outside the womb. His/her grasp becomes firm, and s/he will turn toward light.

Whats happening with mommy this week:

Well, lots of news. We went in for our ultrasound today Thursday. When we first saw the baby Clover was curled up playing with His/Her feet. It was SO cute! We got to see the little chubby cheeks and what looked like the baby sucking His/Her thumb. Even though we were being seen by the ultrasound experts we decided at this point we don't want to know if Clover is a girl or a boy. So, we asked that if she saw anything not to tell us. The news coming out of the ultrasound is they are estimating Clover at 9lb 4oz. At this point they did an amnio to see if the lungs were developed. The amnio wasn't as bad as I had expected. I didn't watch the needle go it although it was a very small needle. I did watch it up on the monitor. Watching to make sure they didn't touch the baby with it. On the drive home we got the first test indicating that the number they look for lung maturity was on the lower side so they ran a longer more accurate test. Four hours later we got the call saying that the lungs are mature and they will be discussing where we should go from there. We got a call from the Doctor who performed the amnio and told me that I had been the topic of discussion all day. Because the baby is breech and due to the size of the baby they are going to recommend C-section. But they wanted the on call Doctors at Sunny side to also discuss it. We got several calls from the Doctors that evening. They too are recommending C-section. Now the questions is when. My Doctor will be calling in the morning to not only talk to me about the events of Thursday, but to give me her recommendations and to set up a time to have this baby. We'll let you know on a newsflash on the front pregnant page!

As far as I go, I'm both scared and excited at the same time. I'm nervous about getting a C-section. I'm nervous about this day finally being here, and I'm excited to see this wonderful baby that Randy and I have created. Our lives are going to change from this moment on.
