"A Walk in the Park" is a tribute to the leaders of the great cities in the United States and around the world who, many years ago, had the foresight and consideration to preserve the beauty of nature and all it's splendor in the heart of their metropolitan areas.  My painting is a typical scene from one of these nature parks that I have had the pleasure to enjoy.

'Jungle Cat' catches a large Jaguar perched on a tree limb and ready for action.  The atmosphere in the jungle is a bit eerie with the rays of sunlight trying to find their way through the thick vegetation.

Imagine it is late in the day and you are inside your cottage at your weekend retreat leisurely preparing a bite to eat.  Gradually you notice that the atmosphere in the cottage is changing.  You have seen this many times and know that it can only mean one thing; a special event that cannot be ignored.  You stop everything, fix your favorite beverage and head out to the back porch to sit back and enjoy another edition of the always-unique setting sun in the western sky as in lowers below the horizon of the marshland.

The earliest signs of spring are when the buds on the plant life seem to magically appear, almost overnight.  After a few days, the blooms begin to open and we are treated to an explosion of new color made more dramatic by the dull, lifeless landscape from months of winter. We appreciate the performance for soon the colorful seasonal flowers are gone and the bright green trees leaves lose their luster.

'Island Palms' was contrived from a selection of photographs that I shot while on a trip to the Island of Barbados.  The Island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the vivid, pastel colors that you see in the artwork are not exaggerated.

'Familiar Trail' is a rendition of a serene yet common sight in the Southeastern United States.  It's early morning, a bit misty and has probably rained the night before.  Although pleasant to the human eye, this scene, most often, is enjoyed only through the eyes of  the wildlife that live in this forest.

'South Pacific' finds a special island paradise with the sun slowly disappearing from the scene transforming the ambience with soft beautiful tones.  You feel as if you could walk along the beach for miles and with each few steps the scene will change.

'Colorado Memory' really is a memory of a view that I enjoyed while on a snowmobile tour near the Continental Divide.  I didn't have time to take a photo, but I was so impressed that the vision remained in my mind.

Thinking about it, I suppose the state of Florida is best known for sunshine, beaches, beautiful women, great college football and of course Disney World and it's companion theme parks.  Nice attractions, but speaking as a professional landscape artist, I find my lifelong home state a bit lacking in subjects for my paintings.  I guess that's why I choose to travel in search of inspiration. However, there are exceptions. This painting is from the grounds of a 2500-acre plantation/farm owned by a close friend located in Madison County in North Florida.

All of the conditions are right on this particular morning that make the effort required for the experience well worth it.  The morning sun, the atmosphere, the colors of the wilderness foliage and the calm waters combine to present the worthy moment.
