Bill (William J.) Witzig - 1955 - 2003

He died at the age of 47.  The story came to me in pieces but it seems he complained of a strange and severe headache and went home one night and was not heard from again.  He was found dead in his bed a few days later.

WITZIG III, WILLIAM J. "BILL" 47 - of the English Creek section of Egg Harbor Twp., died Friday at home. Bill was born in Roslyn, NY and moved to Vineland in 1965 after living in Fulton, NY for 10 years. He was a longtime resident of Atlantic County.

 

Bill was a 1974 graduate of Vineland High School and was an active member of the Select Choir. He also graduated from the Cumberland County College. Bill traveled throughout the United States living in Nevada and Florida before returning to S. Jersey to make his home in Egg Harbor Twp. Bill was employed as Limousine driver for several of the hotels in Atlantic City. His passion for music began at a young age. He was a self taught Blues guitarist. He played with the Albert Collins Band, Jimmy Vaughn Band, Albert King Band & local bands The Roughnecks, John Earl's Boogie Man's Band, Danny Eyer's Blues Band, The Tune Bomb & Bubba Mac Blues Band. He founded & led the Sonic Blues Band. Most recently he founded & led the Blues Jam Open Mic Night at Schooner's in Somers Point. He also owned & operated Envirocare Carpet Cleaning Company.

 

Bill is survived by his loving mother: Helen (Cunningham) Witzig, Mays Landing, two sister's & brother in laws: Carrie & John Valentino, Monroeville, Chris & Dave Turner, West Chester, PA, one brother & sister in law: Michael & Kimberly Witzig, Lancaster, PA., as well as eight nieces & nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father, William J. Witzig, Jr. in 1996.

 

His Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 1pm on Saturday 11/15/03 is the St. Isidores RC Church, 1655 Magnolia Rd., Vineland. Cremation & Inurnment will be private in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Mays Landing. Relatives & friends will be received on Saturday from 10:30-12:30 pm at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S.
