| There
are a few changes in this year's Religious Education Program at Holy
Cross. We've summarized them here by grade level:
Registration:
There is no need to register your child if they have already
attended classes with us. At the end of each year now
students are promoted to the next grade level and assigned to
classes. Statements are send to each family detailing the fees
for the upcoming year. Students entering first grade and
those new to our parish still need to register with the office by
calling 437-7550 or via email at
hcdre@comcast.net.
Cell Phones:
We have found it necessary to implement a new cell phone and
electronic device policy this year for our 6th through 10th grade
students. Our first advice is the leave them home for the
two hours you will be in class. There is no reason we will
need them during class time. If you and your child agree that
they need their cell phone while at class, then the following
procedure will be followed: At the beginning of each 6th through
10th grade class, all students will be asked to place their phones,
iPods and any other electronic device they may have in a collection
basket. They will then be secured in our office and returned
to the students at the conclusion of classes. Should you need
to contact your student during class you may call our office,
437-7550, or leave a text message on your student's number. He
or she will receive the message at the end of class. If you
child needs to contact you during this time they may use of office
phone.
Please understand that we have 2 hours of
your child's attention each month for these grade levels. The
distraction caused by cell phones and iPods is enormous and runs
counter to our mission. We are asking for your understanding
and cooperation as we implement our new policy.
Grades 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5
Sunday mornings at 8:30 or 10:30am
Based on feedback from parents and teachers, we have moved grade
5 classes back to Sunday mornings this year, keeping all our
elementary grades together.
Parent meetings are scheduled this
year on September 15th for parents of 1st, 3rd and 5th grade
students, and on September 16th for parents of 2nd and 4th graders.
The meetings begin at 7:00pm in the Church Hall.
As grades 1, 3 and 5 are not Sacramental
Preparation years, home schooling for an entire session is offered
as a way to work through any scheduling conflicts that may arise.
Please contact the office if you would like to home school your
child and we'd be happy to provide you with all the materials you
will need. Should you desire6, this option for your 2nd
or 4th grade child, please contact the Religious Ed office.
