Loses His Life in An Accident
At Telluride, Colo.
Last Thursday morning James Mitchell received a telegram stating that his son Perry who was superintendent of a stamp mill at the gold reduction works at Telluride, Colorado, I had been instantly killed the afternoon before by the weight of 2 miles of steel cable striking him in the back of the head forcing his face against a shive-block. The information came as a terrible shock to the relatives here as the deceased was a man in the best of health, and well acquainted with his line of work. The Telluride Daily Journal speaks of Mr. Mitchell as being one of the best known men in the Bear Creek mining camp.
The remains arrived in Bradshaw Sunday afternoon accompanied by his wife, and Harvey Myers, his uncle. Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock the funeral services were held from the home of his brother C. H. Mitchell, five miles north-east of Bradshaw, Rev. Schell, of York, delivering the sermon. As the unfortunate young man was a member of tins A. F. & A. M., Elks, and Royal Highlanders, the local orders attended in a body; the masonic ritual service being given at the cemetery. The concourse of friends was one of the largest that has assembled at a funeral in this part of the county for a number of years.
The floral decorations were most beautiful and the casket was a perfect bank of flowers, showing the esteem in which the deceased was held by the different fraternal orders, relatives and friends.
Interment was made in Lincoln Creek cemetery.
Perry Mitchell was born a few miles north of Bradshaw in 1877, and continued to reside under the parental roof until about twelve years ago, when he went west for employment. On April 5, 1911, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Helm Collins whose life lie had saved two years prior, by digging her out of the debris of her home after it had been destroyed by a snow slide. Mr. Collins and baby were killed in the same disaster.
Perry Mitchell always lived a careful life, and that element connected with, a jovial disposition was the means of drawing to himself a large circle of friends, who are deeply grieved to learn of his tragic death. A father, a wife, three brothers, C H. Mitchell, of York, Chaney Mitchell of Harold, Texas, and Roy Mitchell, of Sandusky, Ohio, besides many relatives and friends are left to mourn his departure, practically in the prime of his manhood..
Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Milton Lloyd, of Lincoln, and Roily Lloyd, of York, cousins of the deceased; Riley Myers and wife, of Aurora, uncle and aunt; Mrs. Shankland and son, of Aurora, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law of Chauncey Mitchell.2,1
