The video above was shot on November 2, 2005 at about 1:00PM. The sun was in front of me most of the ride. I used a JVC GR-D72u Digital Video Camera with the HelmetCamera.com extreme plus CCD (bullet) camera system attached through the AV input jack. The actual CCD was built by SONY and it has 420 lines of resolution & a sensitivity rating of .2 lux. The CCD camera is mounted on the centerline of my Yamaha Vision, under the headlight. I clipped the microphone to the tankbag, where the video camera sits safely protected by a waterproof, armored box. The road is Colorado Highway 14 through the Narrows section of Poudre Canyon. This particular stretch is about 45 minutes from my front door. I am lucky to have such fantastic roads to ride so close to home. Highway 14 goes up the Poudre River Canyon for about 50 miles. Then it becomes Cameron Pass for the next 30 miles. It drops into North Park, the site of such towns as Gould, Walden, Rand & Cowdrey. North Park is home to a flourishing moose population. There is a Moose Visitor's Center near Gould, along Highway 14. Motorcycle riders will note the abundance of 'tar snakes' on the road. With the winter conditions, roads get lots of snow which melts & seeps into cracks in the road surface. The ensuing cycles of freezing & thawing expand the crack & the surface deteriorates rapidly. The tar snakes are a combination of a paper-like filler material with a tar sealer spread over the top. It slows the road deterioration but on warm days in the summer, the tar softens & becomes quite slick. These repairs were done late this summer & are the worst I've seen in the area. Glad it was only about 60F when I made this ride. Traction was no problem. |
