Built at New York S.B. Co. and commissioned 3 October 1938

Phoenix was transferred to Argentina 9 Apr 51 and renamed 17 de Octubre. Renamed again to General Belgrano in 1956, the ship was sunk on 2 May 82 by two torpedoes fired by HMS Conqueror during the Falklands War.
