Mary's trip to Kiev, Ukraine
Fall of 2003

During the time that Paul was in Phoenix with Kevin, Mom(Joyce Weiss) and I flew to Kiev, Ukraine, to spend two and a half weeks with Judy, my youngest sister, and her family. This was a trip of a lifetime for both of us. We spent our time sight-seeing, sitting for a few hours at the clinic and hospital with mom after she fell and broke her wrist(an "experience" we will never forget), going to the kids' soccer games and school, going to class with both Judy(as a student)and Mike(as an instructor), meeting Judy and Mike's friends and "family," shopping in the renok(outdoor market), large new grocery stores and St. Andrew's street for souvenirs and gifts, going to the ballet and most of all...spending time with Judy, Mike, Mandie, Luke, Sammie and Chloe(their dog)! Enjoy a few pictures of our time in Kiev. How does one begin to choose 10 pictures(5 on one page and 5 on the second) from about 800!

We spent our first day in Kiev walking on St. Andrews St., eating dinner at a wonderful Italian restauarnt, going grocery shopping in Kiev, and coming home to a tea party with a special torte we had bought at a cake factory. What a way to celebrate my 50th birthday! Mom broke her arm later that night.

This was taken in one of the yards of the many original homes in an outdoor museum on the outskirts of Kiev. I cannot tell you how far we walked, but the museum covered 350 acres! We had such a wonderful day.

Mom with her "4" grandkids at the oiutdoor museum in Ukraine! Chloe loved the day with being able to run and jump and play on the grass. All the yards around each of the homes and churches were taken care of by little elderly babushkas...grandmas.

Mom and I are in front of an Orthodox chapel in the outdoor museum. We were so surprised when we went inside to see that there was an actual service going on. It was interesting to get in on even that part of seeing Kiev.

An elderly man that sits outside under this same tree and plays his stringed instrument daily. He had tapes and CD's for sale of his music. He also takes tips for having his picture taken with you! With all of our sight-seeing, we were so thankful to have the sling for mom's arm...an extra another missionary had stuck in, just in case!
