Hap Hazard #1 front-back
Hap Hazard mini-comics were first published in 1983 by Phantasy Press (Bob
Conway, editor). I'd met Bob through another student while I was attending
the Colorado Institute of Art, in Denver. I was informed that I had four
days to put together an 8-page mini-comic if I wanted to get published
with the next 'run' of comics. I had no idea what to do so I got drunk,
turned on the tube and watched 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', two hours of
the three stooges, and some music videos. The key video was Ultravox's
'the Thin Wall'. When I saw Midge Ure, I knew that I had a character. The
next day while I was at work (putting in car stereos) I was transfixed
by the HAZARD button on a steering column...and the rest is almost history.
There were two other Hap minis, large Hap stories in ACME comics #8 & #10
and a large format Hap Hazard #1 with three stories in it.
Two written with the help of Dennis Pimple
(the guy below and kingpin of Acme Comics)
(See ACME Comics Pages).

Acme Comics
ACME COMICS!

When people ask me to explain Hap Hazard comics, I say that Hap is equal parts
Moe Howard, Sam Spade ,
Foster Brooks and Indiana Jones.
He's sarcastic, crass, inept, drunk, disorderly and as strong as an ape when riled.
He's as likely to vomit in your lap as he is to shoot your ear off.

He exists in a 1930's/40's era where the bad guys are thugs, nazis, evil scientists or paranormal monsters.
Not only are the comics in Black & White, so are the differences between good and evil....kind of.
