Our Founder,

Our Leader

Brian Nolan is a shy unassuming fellow who prefers the quiet, reclusive life over the glare of the public spotlight (though it should be noted that the public spotlight has never offered itself to him)..
In the fall of 1985 he traded in a semi-hollow body Les Paul Signature guitar for a 4 track cassette recorder and began making a strange homemade musical brew that would eventually evolve into the present day Hard Orange X-tet.
In the years that followed he tinkered with his undefinable instrumental experiments while writing songs and playing in different rock bands. After one such band fizzled out he decided to devote his creative talents exclusively to making cheapo bedroom studio compositions that were mainly passed out in cassette form to friends and family.
As the years passed the technique was refined and the studio was slightly modified and MIDI-ized. The Hard Orange X-tet was formed in either 2000 or 2001 (the documentaion is unclear). Round Notes, the X-tet’s debut CD was released in the spring of 2002.  Though slicker and more polished than the early 4 track recordings, the music on this disc remains unbound to any style and unpolluted by corporate influence.
