Barbara
Kaplan has been practicing yoga since 1978. In 1991, she graduated from the
Yoga Room's Teacher Training Program in Berkeley, California. That same year
she became a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. In 1992, she studied with
the Iyengars in Pune, India. She has practiced Vipassana meditation since 1990.
Recognized
for her exceptional strength and flexibility, Barbara was featured in the 1996,
1997, and 1998 Yoga Journal calendars. She has also modeled for various yoga
articles and health catalogs.
Besides
teaching yoga and meditation, Barbara gives workshops on the chakras, and has
led retreats in Nepal, Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii. Each year
Barbara teaches yoga to Kaiser Permanente psychiatrists, therapists, and health
educators from each Northern California region. Her 90-minute yoga audio tape
can be found in all Kaiser Permanente libraries. She also teaches a special
course called "Yoga for Patient Care" for the residents at Highland Hospital.
Respected
as an authority on Iyengar yoga, Barbara has been interviewed by KPFA in Berkeley,
California, on the benefits of Iyengar yoga. She was recently interviewed for
a new book on women's health, which includes a chapter on yoga for good digestion.
