David and Dora Lazarus Lipsitz had nine children, all born in Russia. Vilna and Radiviskis, Lithuania, and Riga and Liepaja, Latvia, are mentioned in oral histories or documents about the Lipsitz family. The oldest son Louis may have immigrated in 1877, and the oldest daughter Sarah came in 1911. Others may have come to the United States about 1885. Sarah entered the port of Philadelphia. The others probably entered at Castle Garden, New York, and then went to Baltimore, Maryland, before migrating to North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
