Eligibility requirements: The fastest car for each rank in your pack is eligible to participate in this race.

Registration and Start Times: We would prefer you pre-register.  Registration (check-in) begins at 8:00 am.  Tiger registration will close at 8:45 am.  The Tiger race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.

The rules are simple:

  • Only one cub for each rank can represent your Pack in this race.
  • All cars must be built from the Official BSA Pinewood Derby Car Kits and must meet the National Guidelines as outlined in the Cub Scout Grand Prix Guidebook.
  • Car weight must not exceed 5 oz. and the length can’t be any longer than the original block of wood.

  • All 4 wheels must sit flat on the track.
  • Only dry lubricant is allowed.

Why Join Scouting?
In 1930, the Boy Scouts of America created a new opportunity called Cub Scouting for boys younger than Boy Scout age. A year-round, home-centered program used by chartered organizations, Cub Scouting emphasizes involvement between boys and their parents, adult leaders, and friends. In the multidimensional plan of the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouting is where it all begins.
Cub Scouting has the following purposes:
* Influences a boy's character development and spiritual growth.
* Develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship.
* Encourage sportsmanship and pride. Grow strong in mind and body.
* Improve understanding within the family.
* Strengthen a boy's ability to get along with others.
* Foster personal achievement. Develop new interests and skills.
* Provide fun and exciting new things to do.
* Show a boy how to be helpful and do his best.
* Prepare him to be a Boy Scout.
Cub Scouts is a year-round program, uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys (ages 6-10) and their families. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.

As they finish Kindergarten, boys can join Cub Scouts as Tiger Cubs; then they move into the Wolf and Bear Cub Scout programs (second and third grade or age 8 or 9), and Webelos Scouts (fourth and fifth grade or age 10). They then transition into Boy Scouts.

Saint Joseph's Parish has chartered the Poquonock area Cub Scouts-Pack 256.  This is great program for our young boys.  If you would like more information or would like to join, please contact Lisa Stewart (683-2396) or Tom Harris (683-1247).
