OK, so you've come here for "HTML".
Before you go off to the resources available here, give Ted Holm Nelson a little of your time. Find out about the creator of "hypertext" at XANADU. Ted is best known for: coining terms "hypertext" and "hypermedia," 1963 (first published 1965), and as founder and pursuer of Project Xanadu®, which has been widely misunderstood and is well known for his books: Literary Machines and Dream Machines.

If you have some time also read and view the ZDTV stories on Ted Nelson.
And thanks to Tim Berners-Lee and his colleagues at CERN for the introduction of HTTP - HyperText Transport Protocol and URLs(World Wide Web) which is how we got here today. With bit of history you're ready to understand HyperText Markup Language.

If you would like to try hand coding, here are a couple of Freeware Editors that let you see the code and the finished product as you go. Arachnophillia Care Ware and Code Edit or HTML Kit Build 290 (2.8 Mb) Includes language-level color coding for HTML, XML, CSS Style Sheets, JavaScript, VBScript, PHP, IE 5 conditional HTML and ASP blocks.

For good WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) try Adobe GoLive, Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft Front Page.

And if you want information on the current HTML standards, go over to the W3C-HTML 4.01, XML, etc. pages for higher learning in hypertext.

XHTML Basic content can be shared across desktop computers, TVs, PDAs, pagers, and mobile phones. Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director, said, "XHTML Basic offers the simplicity and wide interoperability of early versions of HTML and reflects ten years of Web experience, including advances in XML and accessibility."
