PRAYERS FOR SPIRITUAL AWAKENING FROM THE PROPHETS
Some comments about the book and some sample prayers:
The need for revival has perhaps never been greater in the whole short history of our nation. We are reeling under the judgments of God and are just a shell of the mighty nation we once were. Our courts can be bought and justice can be delayed indefinitely if one has enough money. The courts display a bias against Christianity using huge fines and long sentences to punish what is almost overlooked in others. Our lawmakers have found the way to entrench themselves as the nobility of the land by emptying the public treasury and borrowing against the respect and goodwill generated by our forefathers. They have sold our country to others for a few years of luxurious living. The godless media is busy calling evil good and good evil. Our schools are armed camps where kids are taught that man is god and how to sin safely. Our medical system is overwhelmed with incurable diseases and skyrocketing costs. We have gone from being the world's biggest lender to being the biggest debtor nation
At the same time the church is mostly asleep, caught in the traditions of yesterday or copying methods and programs that seemed to have worked somewhere else. She endures a "scandal a week" as dishonesty, immorality and greed of her leaders are exposed. Her debts for buildings, entertainment and other luxuries mimics the national debt and siphons off funds needed to send the gospel to the whole world. Her denominations are pitted against each other and against themselves.
I exhort you to use the words and prayers the prophets used as they tried to call their nation to repentance. They knew the judgment of God was either coming or underway and they saw the devastation it would bring. God gave them words fit for such an hour. We can use those words to call out to God and ask Him to revive the church and save our nation.
JEREMIAH
As you pray these first few prayers, remember that our Father is just as interested in positioning you in your right place in the kingdom as He was in positioning Jeremiah. He has placed the Holy Spirit inside you and is training, equipping and empowering you to accomplish kingdom works that no one else can do. So, come back to this first page often and pray these prayers for yourself, spouse, children, and friends. My comments about the verses are in normal type and the prayers from the verses are in bold type.
Chapter 1
This prayer does not ask for an exalted position - just the proper position for each of us.
Lord, set us apart and assign us to our proper position to the nation, as You did Jeremiah. vs 5
Often the job God designs for us is not what or where we would have chosen. Looking back later we will see that each kingdom job was designed to develop us, protect us and at the same time really did fit who God was changing us to be.
Don't let us make excuses. Send us wherever You want and speak through us Your message. Keep us from being afraid and deliver us from those who oppose us. vs 7-8
Ask the Lord to touch you and fill your mouth with His proper word for each moment. His words build up those around us and bring conviction to those in sin.
Touch us and put Your words in our mouths. vs 9
We bring the light and life of Jesus to every place we go. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
Set us over the nation to root out, pull down and to build up and plant exactly as You direct. vs 10
This is a short but extremely important verse. God will perform His word. As you pray through His word, you can expect to see Him in action.
Lord, hasten to perform the words You have given and are giving us. vs 12
More than ever, we need to stand and speak the words God is giving us. Expect criticism. The devil will always oppose, if he can, the work of God. Submit to God, resist the devil and press on in the strength, peace and anointing of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Cause us to boldly speak all You tell us. Make us strong enough to withstand criticism and opposition. No matter how much the devil fights us, make us victorious in Your name. vs 17-19
