HCMS Student Dress Code
Dress for Success
Program

This school year HCMS will again be asking students to participate in our Dress for Success Day
on Wednesdays every week. We ask all students to participate in this one-day-a-week venture,
when students may dress up a little special.  No matter one's ethnicity, socio-economic status,
gender, or grade level, every student is asked to consider making each Wednesday just a little
more special by dressing accordingly.  Boys should consider wearing slacks and a golf shirt or a
sport coat and tie; girls may wish to wear a dress or attractive pants suit.  Our experience is that
students feel different about themselves when they are "dressed for the occasion."  Such
participation tends to impact school climate, students' behavior, and student image in a positive
manner.  Everyone likes to look nice, and we're hoping that every student "catches the spirit" and
will want to participate.  We have been very pleased thus far with the number of students who have
begun to participate, but we sure would like to see the numbers grow.

Harper's Choice Accelerated Reader® Program is a Rewarding Experience.

Harper's Choice Middle School will be kicking off it's reading incentive program, Accelerated Reader® in early October. This PTA supported program is a favorite of students, administration and parents alike. It's offered to all students, of all reading levels, and it's coordinated through the students' reading classes.

The Accelerated Reader® program is a computer-based, pre-purchased software program designed for all students. Participating students read selected books at a variety of reading levels and complete a ten-question quiz associated with that book. Once the quiz is completed, the student earns points depending on the length of the book, literacy level and success on the quiz. These points can then be traded for special rewards in the school store. The store will be staffed by volunteers and is open during lunch, once a week.

This is a truly rewarding program for all involved.

Look for more details soon!

Parent Volunteers are presently needed to help administer this program. If you are interested in helping please contact Margot Newcomb (410-992-9238) or Keith Bevans (410-720-4706).
