During Holy Week, 1981, while I was living in Belgium, I spent the time between Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil with some friends in Brussels, fasting, with an English Bible, a Greek New Testament, and a borrowed copy of the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament for company.  What emerged was this essay:
