Page down to see flood pictures of Alstead Village, including Milot Green, the police station, and the library.

The following pictures were, obviously, taken early October 9th, 2005.

This one  looks like Library Avenue.

This one scares me. The following 4 shots are part of a video someone shot as the water went through Milot Green!!!.

You can see the Cannon's old house there on the right. For those of you who aren't familiar with Millot green, it's Alstead's town common. It has a baseball field, a basketball court, a soccer field maybe, a horse rink, and band stand. Cold River flows way over there in the background behind the furthest trees you see over there.

See the trees going over?

That's the basketball court there. This gives you an idea of how high the water reached. What with the river usually way over in the background there, several feet below the green.

General destruction. Looks like part of that earlier video?

The police station's there on the right, at the edge of Milot Green. It flooded out because the water was so high.

See?

Main Street in Alstead.

Cold River after it returned to being just a raging river.

The library.

Millot Green:

Millot Green. This was taken after the cleanup began and they were using it as a center to recycle debris.

The library lawn bearing what looks like the stone from the war memorial from across the street? Good God, that water was high. That was no 4 or 5-foot wall of water if it came all the way up there. Anyone want to guess how high it really was?

More cleanup. This looks like it could be down by Blanchflower? (See that pile of what looks like sawdust?)

The village bridge. I think I posted this on Tuesday, but it's better quality than the one I posted earlier.

Official business at the Alstead fire station. Gov. Lynch is there. See anyone from town? I need help on this one.

The village.

Another shot of the village bridge:

Here's the village. The river was still very high in this photo.

Here's the village bridge.

Livengoods' barn in the village:

Blanchflower Lumber in the village:

Cars in the river:

Here's another picture from the Alstead Village.

-or- WHAT FOLLOWS ARE THE PICS SUZANNE AND I TOOK A WEEK AFTER THE FLOOD.

View of the Village bridge repairs taken from across the street from the 3rd Congregational Church on River Street.

The back of the Alstead library seen through the trees, taken from the 3rd church on River St.

The first 3 pictures below were taken 2 days ago, on Saturday. This is the new one-way bridge in Alstead village.

Millot Green's looking a bit more crowded this week. This was also taken on Saturday. This was a very busy spot.

The library looks a bit different, but it's not such a bad thing, given recent events.

Town does essentially look the same, but with significant differences. There are some alarming sites around town that weren't the direct result of the water. For example, you can't see it from here but those cars are parked at the Fire Station, which is Flood Relief central with humvees and trailers full of food. This is where people are getting meals.

This is what it looks like to get into town. That's an army truck right there. By the bridge. I didn't want to start with this picture, but I don't know why.

See the little National Guardsmen standing there in front of Marx's hardware? I felt kind of bad for them.

See the army truck? This is in the parking lot at the end of Millot Green. That's the bandstand beside the army truck, resting comfortably having been washed there. The bandstand's been cleaned up since it's move and looks like it's actually being put to modest use!

This one gives you a better shot of The Green. This picture's taken from the parking lot. See all the equipment? It's odd to me that this scene actually gave me some comfort. This is the picture we absentees aren't getting... that help has arrived.

This sign's across from the Village store heading upstream. That's Millot Green in the background.

The Green shows signs of clean up and organization in these piles of rubble.

More piles of things on Millot Green. Word has it that people have to find their cars to make an insurance claim. You don't find your car, you don't make a claim.

This shot's blurry, but it gives you a wider view of the green. (Can you believe this is Millot Green?)

More Millot Green. More signs of cleanup.
