|James Allen | | | | m. 16 Mar 1639 Dedham MA Emmigrated: @1637 Feb. 21, 1676, a group of Indians led by King Philip were on their way from Marlborough to Medfield, and passed by the James Allen farm. They took wood shavings from the cooper shop, which was on the farm, set them afire, left them in the house, and hurried on to the village. Although the village of Medfield was reduced to ashes, the Allen family was more fortunate; the shavings in the house were left on a horizontal cellar door which burned until it was sufficiently weakened to collapse, fell to the dirt floor below, and died out without catching the rest of the house.

He is listed in the 1900-01 Lawrence Directory as "foreman Pacific [illegible]" second hand, Lower Pacific yard, at 68 Butler St, Lawrence". In the 1902-03, as an overseer, Lower Packific yard, still living at 68 Butler St. The Lawrence Directory of 1903-04 said that he "removed to Everett", and there is no trace of him after that in Lawrence or Everett. He is not listed in the 1910 census; he is not listed in the Mass. Vital Records through 1951, and there is no record of his burial in the Methodist Church in Danville Canada through 1925. HOWEVER: I did find, buried in the Danville Protestant Cemetery where his parents are buried, this: "Gilman, Eugene, b. 1851, d. 1910, s/w & husband of Mary Leith" ... is this OUR Eugene?
