The answer for 15 October 2001: An umbrella!
ABOUT THE TRANSCRIPTIONS: I've tried to honor Irene's
spellings. For those of you
who are wondering, "[sic]" follows any spelling or grammar error that
I've intentionally replicated from the diary. Using this notation helps me when
I'm correcting my own typos and tells you a little something endearing about the
diarist. There are some misspellings that happen with such frequency that I
don't always bother to identify them. Namely, they are: "moped" (for
mopped), "embrodered" or "embroderied" (for embroidered),
"finely" (for finally), "dosen't" or "dosent" (for
doesn't), and quite often "bot" or "bought" (for brought).
Night is always "nite" whether it's "tonite",
"midnite" or "last nite". For my own personal thoughts on
these diaries, see my About Me page.
