January 1  Tues.  6^o below 0^o a.m. + 0^o P.M. very cold + windy - 16” snow - Ray slept til 2:30 - Son up to Bula’s for dinner + bot Grace home. I wrote Fran, Reta + Aunt G  Sonny to church meeting

January 2  Wed  7^o below 0^o A.M. + 5^o above P.M. School today + I fed 56-139 - Ray worked on furnace cold air draft to Grace’s room. I’m sleeping with Grace - Ray in front room.  Ruth + Sammy in Lakeland - live near schoo [sic] + Sam work day after Xmas.

January 3  Thur  12 AM + PM. I fed 61-134 - Bula + I went to Hinsdale P.M. with Putnams to BB game. We lost both games - 1st. 38-33 + 2nd 76-50. Very small floor. Its after 12:30 + I’m sleepy.

January 4  Fri  12^o a.m. + 30^o P.M. I fed 64-137-Home 2:30 - brake on car no good. Son to Keene P.M. playing BB but I just couldn’t go. I baked + made donuts. Planning birthday surprise for Ma.

January 5  Sat  16^o A.M. + 7^o P.M. - 4 below at May’s P.M. washed + to Falls + got Ma’s dress for birthday - party at May’s. Edney sisters + Mrs Carman there - Ray too tired so stayed home. He made $93. this last week.  Letter from Ruth + they are near Reta in Lakeland + like it very much. Sam works for Super Market Co.

January 6  Sun  7^o A.M. 16^o P.M. Son to Gowen’s A.M. as they’re sick + Jeep no start so took car. Grace + Ma went with Helen. They have new T.V. Grace + I slid - Son to P.F. Ray work.

January 7  Mon  16^o A.M. - 24^o P.M. snowed most of day. About 5: more. I fed 62-128 - Grace ironed - Ray put in another piece pipe to cold air draft. Got meat from Brine - 89 lbs to smoke - played hearts Grace + Son.

January 8  Tues  16^o A.M. 20^o P.M. I fed 64-136 - Baked beans. Walpole to see Basket ball game - we won both - 1st - 33-34 2nd 51-54. Very good games. Ma to Grange. Ma’s birthday - Ann called P.M.

January 9  Wed  23^o a.m. + P.M. I fed 67-137 - Ray fixed brakes on Jeep + car - Son to Joanne’s P.M. played hearts before tho. Gladys Wood slipped + fell on ice Sun but home last P.M. better

January 10  Thur  16^o a.m. 2^o PM -Snowed 6 or 7: all day. Donny plowed yard good. I fed 65-137. Son home early. Grace + I too. Wendy over for supper. Son to Movies P.M. I baked + T.V.

January 11  4^o below ^o A.M. 12^o above P.M. I fed 67-127 - Cut Han’s hair + took shoes to May - for Eastern Star Mon. [Man.?] P.M. saw Girls B Bgame afternoon + we all saw Son Play Marlboro P.M. 68-61  we won.

January 12 Sat.  8^o A.M. 30^o P.M. washed. Nice all day. Put new line on clothes line. Ester + Herby up with toboggen [sic]. I turned my ankle. Church family supper. I gave reading. “Belle of C.C.” Son skating in Walpole.

January 13  Sun [written on the page for January 14] I did not go to church-stayed home + got dinner. Ray took rest. Wendy here for dinner + we all went to Bula’s sliding - Ester + Herby there too. Very cold 10^o below P.M. Son no got jeep going  Didn’t even know I skipped a day [of the diary] Son missed sliding party of P.F. - P.M.

January 14  Mon. [written on the page for January 13] 24^o below 0^o a.m. + 8^o below P.M. I fed 57-103 - lots couldn’t get to school. Too cold. Jeep still not go but Buick does. Ray just left for work. letter from Reta - clippings about Pat. Pats secretary arrested for forgery of $7,000. - some mess. Pat’s case still unsettled.

January 15  Tues  16^o below A.M. + 8^o below early P.M. + 4^o below now 11:30 - I fed 64-126 - Charlestown to B.B.game - we lost 48-53 - Good game anyway. Bula, Ray + I went. Ray has cold + down stairs  Son - 2 points - 1 basket.

January 16  Wed  4^o below A.M. 8^o above P.M. snowed all day very light - 3” or 4” - I fed 67-128 - Ray + Son to Father + Son’s banquet P.M. Grace, Ma + I home - I made coke + sewed. Ray got jeep going - stores closed so no battery.

January 17  Thur  8^o below a.m. - 6^o below P.M. 6” more snow. Clear + cold today. I fed 65-127 - Got home early so Ray could have car. Son started jeep + is in Alstead P.M. I cut small ham + froze. -

January 18  Fri  16^o below A.M. + 4^o above at 10 + now 8^o above. Had terrible time getting car started. Donny pushed us to Drewsville + Francis Pelton came for us + 9:45 got to school. Son lost to Henniker BB - 76-64 Henniker. Ray got excited today + broke things but all O.K. now. 12:15 a.m.

January 19  Sat  4^o below am - 2^o above P.M. Washed + cooked Baby sat at Woods. Son to movies with Joanne.

January 20  Sun  2^o above at 9:30 A.M. + in 20^os P.M. Much warmer. rest to church - I cooked dinner - Son washed dishes - Bula + kids down + we all slid + had swell time - Took Son to P.F. + Earl bot him home. Ray put another section in cold air pipe to Grace’s room.

January 21  Mon  32^o A.M. + warmer P.M. ice + snow melting fast. I fed 58-136. Keene played BB + we beat both games. J.V. [junior varsity] 38-35 - V. [varsity] 68-59 - Ray + I went. Ray just left for work - 11:PM now.

January 22  Tues.  Raining hard. warm all day. I fed 60-134 - Son played B.B. Hinsdale beat 83-82 - Boys played so hard - Son, Billy, Syd out on fouls - Ma to Grange - she fell down in front room - Ray home.

January 23  Wed - Warm A.M. 10^o P.M. very cold. I fed 61-135 - Ray, Ma + I to Keene to Dr for Ray’s eye. Gotta put salve in 3 times day to bring down pressure. Ray finished furnace, cleaned chimney + fixed jeep. Son to Alstead P.M.

January 24  Thur  3^o A.M. 10^o P.M. I fed 56-128. Falls after school - Son had hair cut. He sprained ankle again - swelled some. I baked pies + made cup cakes P.M. Son + Grace played games me too. Ma’s eye getting better - Ray working P.M.

January 25  Fri  12^o a.m. 20^o P.M. + spitting snow. I fed 55-130. BB game with Walpole + they won 65-45. Son + Joanne went with P.F. to Greenfield for week end. He got hit in eye P.M. but his ankle is better. Sonny played tonite too.

January 26  Sat.  20^o a.m. - 16^o P.M. Ray 10 min late for work a.m. I over slept in Grace’s room. Washed + baked. Grace cleaned. Washed heads + took bath. Miss Sonny - Watched T.V. P.M.

January 27  Sun - In 20^o [sic] all day - nice - church A.M. Ray, Grace, Bula + I to Greenfield after noon to get Sonny + Margaret. Lovely camp and they had such a good time. Sonny + Joanne home with us. cut Herby’s hair P.M. I hemmed Son’s new pants.

January 28  Mon.  20^o a.m. 26^o P.M. - getting cloudy - But nice out. I fed 50-126 - lots absent. P.T.A. P.M. I helped with refreshments. Gladys, Grace + I went. Ray has finely [sic] found what is wrong with jeep.

January 29  Tues  20^os all day. snowed all day - 5” - I fed 55-116. Ray + Son to Walpole to BB game with Hinsdale - Grace, Ma + I to bed early. Furnace so nice - just as warm as summer.

January 30  Wed  4^o a.m. + 8^o P.M. nice day but cold P.M. + A.M. I fed 56-126 - Mr. Taylor lost 2 fingers + Ma Washburn broke rib in auto accident. Game with Troy. We beat both games - 46-8- + 66-56. Ma went. Grace no.

January 31  Thur. 6^o A.M. 20^o P.M. cloudy - I fed 57-123 - Got home early so Ray could have car to go to work. Son writing sermon for Sun. in church + is anxious over it. walked to Joanne’s P.M. + Herby bot home.

February 1  Fri  20^o AM + P.M. snow little P.M. I fed 56 - 120 - Went to W. Lebanon with Putnam’s - 8 in car. We won both games - 35-34 - 63-47 - Earl bot Son + I home. I walked most to Alstead + Bula came

February 2  Sat  20^o A.M. + P.M. warm + sunny during day. Washed + cooked. Son walked to Alstead A.M. to finish sermon + down pm typing it at Pitchers. Called Mil P.M. so good to hear her. Whitney selling farm May 6 + Bula + Earl are quite upset as they will have to do something else.

February 3  Sun.  16^o A.M. 34^o P.M. misty + very slippery P.M. Son had sermon in East Alstead + Alstead and we all attended - Thanks Father that Ray went. Bula + Earl + all down + we played Hearts. Son walked to P.F. very slippery Ray left for work 7:15 - Thy will over them. Bula has sty on eye.

February 4  Mon.  In 30s all day + windy P.M. icy A.M. but soft now. Ray just left for work - 10:45 - I fed 51-126. Maud said Bill has bad heart + can’t overdo - I looked over baby card of Son’s birth P.M.

February 5  Tues  Nice + warm all day. 32^o P.M. I fed 54-127 - Falls after school + got Ray’s birthday gift. sport coat, cap + Ma got shirt. I roasted meat + T.V. P.M. Ray + Son to Walpole B.B. Mrs Ketchkemety died today.

February 6  Wed.  16^o above A.M. + P.M. Nice + warm in day. I fed 54-126 - Basketball game with Henniker + beat them 54-47 - first game beat too. Ma to May’s - big crowd at game. Son made 12 points. We had Ray’s birthday P.M. Ray got 3 shirts, sport coat, cap + Batteries + bulb for flash lantern - Grace fried best chicken  I made cake.

February 7  Thur.  20^o A.M. 34^o P.M. swell + warm. Grace + I walked down road P.M. just to get out. I fed 54-125 - Ray to work in Jeep. Son to Joanne’s P.M. I made cake. T.V. + bed. Ray’s birthday 49 yrs today.

February 8  Fri  20^o A.M. + P.M. nice in day - I fed 50  123 - Grace + I went on bus to New London + our boys beat both games. What a thrill. Wonderful time on bus up + back. Son - 10 pts.

February 9  Sat  30^o A.M. 35^o P.M. snow + rain. Washed. Wendy here all day - I made cake for Mimi’s birthday - Son to O.C. dance P.M. he got corsage. Mil + Harry no come.

February 10  Sun.  20^o + cold - cleared about 2 - church A.M. Wendy too + also stayed all day here. Helen + Don to Manchester. Helen, Laurie + kids over for dinner. They are fine. Wendy + Paul had fun. Son to P.F. P.M.

February 11  Mon  20^o A.M. + 10^o P.M. very icy. I fed 56-120 - Miss Cutter hasn’t come yet. We all home P.M. - Grace, Son + I played hearts - Ray to work at 11 P.M. I wrote Ruth + Ketchkemety family.

February 12  Tues  10^o A.M. 12 P.M. I fed 59-127 - Vilas got beat be Charlestown 71-69 - 3 min overtime - 63-63. J.V. won - Vilas is out of tournament now. Ma home did not go to Grange. I got Valentines for kids.

February 13  Wed  12^o A.M. 20^o P.M. nice in day. Ray to Dr Ford + eye lots better - I fed 60 - 120 - all blue over losing game last night. Son to Alstead to do homework + see Joanne.

February 14  Thur  20^os - nice in day. I fed 64-126 - Valentines today - Chimney fire here + Dan Metcalf brought me up - smoke terrible but no great damage. Ma, Son + I to ortorical contest. Tom Marx 1st + Joanne 2nd.

February 15  Fri  10^o - nice in day. I fed 65-126. Son to Newport to see play offs of Walpole + etc. went with Mr Metcalf. Ma, Grace + I shopped + went to see May + Hans P.M. Ester called from Spfld. Mass - She + Leo coming tomorrow.

February 16  Sat  20^os A + P.M. - snowed + rained little - Grace + I cleaned + scrubbed - Es + Les Jordon here all day til 8:30 - She bot Ma some of Aunt Cora’s clothes. Son at school A.M. arranging year book   P.M. he is at Joanne’s - Jordan fixed T.V. + it was good P.M.

February 17  Sun  26^o P.M. but very windy. Church + Paul here when we got home. Good to see him. bot me red slippers - pretty. Son has been gone since 4 + its 11:15 - Wonder??

February 18  Mon.  12:40 Son just got home from Newport. Hinsdale beat Andover. Heniker beat New London + Walpole beat Holy Rosary. Washed, put lilt in Bula’s hair - Ray + us listened to Walpole game - I wrote Reta   Dan Metcalf called twice about games - called Ray - I’m tired - Nite.

February 19  Tues  Nice - in 30^o all day - Ray slept all day - Son to school working on year book. Grace ironed + I made bread + cooked. played hearts - Thayer just won over Hopkington.

February 20  Wed  In 20^os all day + windy. Cleaned upstairs - hung clothes out. Son worked A.M. on year book. He + Ray sawed wood - Frances called P.M. wants us up there this weekend - ?

February 21  Thur  Swell all day - 30^os - Falls A.M. Insurance man here + gonna give $136. for damage. Joanne up P.M. + we listened to games + Walpole beat Hinsdale + Henniker beat Thayer. Going to Laconia to see Frances a.m.

February 22  Fri  Got up early + Grace, Bula, Margaret + Charles + I drove to Laconia - came 82 miles - 2 hrs 25 min. Beautiful up here. Saw don team races from 1 P.M. on. Went to ice cream place + got big dishes made Grace sick - Took walk + got medicine for her. She s better now.

February 23  Sat  Nice weather cloudy in 30^os - left Laconia 1:45 + got home 4:30 - had good trip both ways. Glad to be home. Listened to Henniker beat Walpole for Championship - 64-59 - Son to Joanne’s

February 24  Sun  Swell all day - church A.M. + Ma, Grace, Ray + I took ride + came by Mil’s + also saw Edna’s new house in Acworth - Very nice. Son to P.F. but home early - I started letter to Mrs Bemis P.M. - Ray working + Son now T.V.

February 25  Mon  In 50^os today - swell - sap must have run good. I fed 62-126 - We’re back to school again. Ray just left for work + Son + I saw good story on T.V. Son’s toes better with new medicine I got at Laconia.

February 26  Tues  Warm all day. Rain + fog P.M. I fed 61-122 -  Grace + I to Beauty parlor + had hair cut + set. She very sick P.M. vomited blood. Called Dr. Ma + I to Grange. Me chaplain.

February 27  Wed  Warm A.M. 15^o P.M. + windy. I fed 65-128. Maud + I worked til 4:30 - Grace feeling better - She still in bed. Bula + Earl down P.M. Son to Alstead + Im to bed early - 9:30

February 28  Thur.  Wow! Maud + I had some day. 10^o A.M. I fed 64-128 - + then stayed til 9 P.M. + served banquet for F.H.A. - boy it was some job. Grace about same. I called Dr about her + I put ice packs to back of her head to stop thumping -

March 1  Fri   I slept with Grace last night + she + I were awake ‘til after 4 a.m. her heart pounded all over her+ sounded like drums - called [Dr.] Gilman + then [Dr.] Tatem + she is in hospital now - bleeding internally - will know more in a.m. I fed 61 - Maud 128 - Snowed all day but only about 1” - Grace surely hated to go.

March 2  Sat.  Nice - 18^o + warmer + cold P.M. Washed - Son + Ma helped me - Went to see Grace - she had transfusion today. But she feels miserable - Charles bot drums

March 3  Sun. Swell but cold. Grace better today + cheerful too. Son + I over afternoon + Bula P.M. Clutch in car broke on way home + Son milks cow at Alstead center for week  ? Helen over

March 4  Mon.  12^o A.M. 14^o P.M. windy, cold. I fed 60-109. Saw Grace after school + she was having more blood. Xrays in A.M. Ray + I to Keene P.M. on bus + Vilas lost to Marlboro 55-42

March 5  Tues  6^o A.M. 20^o P.M. Nice in day. I fed 60-119 - Saw Grace P.M. -she had Xrays + has ulcer but otherwise good. She looked much better P.M. Im overseer in Grange again. Ray got car + it cost $59.00 to fix it.

March 6  Wed  10^o A.M. 22 P.M. I fed 10-119 - To Grace P.M. - Ray + I - She’s lots better - I ironed some but have more to do. Get to school at 7:30 now + out earlier. Flowers from Frances for Grace. Janice Butler had 8lb boy -

March 7  Thur  20^o AM - 34^o P.M. few snow flakes. I fed 59-121 - Over to see Grace P.M. + shopped for Gro. Son + Charles to Basket ball game + Vilas 7+8 beat No. Walpole. Grace improving all time.

March 8  Fri  33^o A.M. 35^o P.M.  Wet snow off + on all day. Melted all away. I fed 57-113 - over to see Grace after school - cooked + ironed P.M. Son + Charles + Joanne over to B.F. to 7+8 B.B.

March 9  Sat. Snow all day - 7” - Very heavy. Colder P.M. Washed - To see Grace in jeep. Washed head + T.V. Grace coming home Monday - No school meeting because of snow

March 10  Sun.  18^o AM 24^o P.M. Windy + cold. All to church A.M. Over to see Grace + she trying to make bowels move - I called Dr + he going to see her P.M. Son to movies + P.F. P.M.

March 11  Mon.  30^o P.M. I fed 62-111 - Grace did not come home today but she feels better + had 2 enamas [sic] - Son to Everett Bragg’s to birthday party - Ma + I to Grange rehearsel.

March 12  Tues.  20^os A+P.M. I fed 62-122 - Town meeting - Grace up to Bula’s P.M. Grange + rehearsel P.M. Its 11 P.M.

March 13  Wed.  24^o A.M. 40^o P.M. good sap day. I fed 64-125  - Maud sick today + we had to slice turkeys til late. Grace gaining but Whitney’s up there + I’m going up Thur. Ironed P.M.

March 17  [Written on the page for March 15] Sun  36^o a + PM. Nice in day. Church + Then took May + Hans + went to Keene + saw Ray + Ann. Saw movies of them all afternoon. Son had good time in Boston + is at sugar supper at Alvin’s Clarks [sic] P.M. with P.F.

March 18  Mon  30^os all day. I fed 65-122 - Maud run out of food. Grange rehearsel P.M. Son to Library. Ray fully insured in Quaker Oats Co. now. Its 11 P.M.

March 19  Tues  Nice all day - I fed 61-121 - I finished ironing + wrote Mrs Bemis - Son just got home from Joanne’s -

March 20  Wed  Nice but snow P.M. I fed 59 122 - Son, Joanne, Avis Pratt + I went to Gowen’s sugar supper - sonly 23 there but its stopped snowing -

March 21  Thur  Nice - windy - sap run good today - Son up to Gowens til 10 - left school at noon. I fed 59-121. Ma + I shopped, after Son for nothing up to Bula’s P.M. to see Grace + T.V.

March 22  Fri  Up to 52^o today - I fed 54 - 117. Talent show P.M. swell + Son, Charles + Joanne had best comedy part - I was so proud of Son. He surely looked like me on stage. Took Wendy Maud. [Or “Maud took Wendy” -- it’s not clear to me. -HQ]

March 23  Sat. Swell - Washed. Ines, Nile, Nina, Kathy + Lenny here for dinner. Son home at 3. Ray home after 5. Son out P.M. rest of us T.V. Ray fixed car - why he was late.

March 24  Sun  Swell but windy. Paul came am + left 8 P.M. Good to see him. Son worked at Gowens + P.F. P.M. Church A.M. Ma, Wendy + Karen + I. Ray working P.M.

March 25  Mon  Swell - I fed 58-101 - Charlestown P.M. to Grange rehearsel - Took Ruth Pratt + took her home - Avis too. Bob + Jimmy Truquois [??] rode up. Son to Joanne’s - Ray gone to work.

March 26  Tues  cloudy - I fed 61-95. Son to Concord today with Juniors + Seniors. left 7 + back 6 - Grange P.M. + we rehearsed our speeches.

March 27  Wed  cloudy but warm. Sap slow - I fed 59-117 - Ray got saw rig on tractor + I helped saw some wood. Son finished - he is up to Alvin’s P.M. helping boil - I ironed + mended.

March 28  Thur  Swell but cool. I fed 59-111 - Falls after school. Then to May’s + cut Hans hair + up to Bula’s + she set mine. Grace coming slow. Ray working P.M. til 11.

March 29  Fri  Cloudy - I fed 55 - 119 - Grange up to Charlestown - we did 4^th degree + Ma perfect. Son to record hop so he went + came home with us. Ray just got home.

March 30  Sat  Swell but cool. I worked at school fed 62 F.H.A. [Future Homemakers of America] girls, Maud + I - Son to Gowens + Keene P.M. Ray home P.M. + T.V. Im getting rested - sure was tired

March 31  Sun  Swell - Paul up - Ma to church. I washed + got dinner - Took Son to Keene + bot new lite Blue Suit - pretty. Ann Ray + Lenny up - Son to church P.M. Ma + I T.V.

April 1  Mon  Swell day. I fed 59-118. Kids are baseball now. Son too - He wants me on his program next Tuesday. Grace to Dr. + she’s feeling better all the time. Fooled Son + Kids fooled me

April 2  Tues  Rain + cloudy. I fed 57-102, I made cake for Mr Metcalf’s birthday tonite + put golf club decorations on it. Son had tooth ache but better now. Its 10 + to bed.

April 3  Wed  Dan Metcalf’s birthday  Swell but cold - 26^o here but 14^o up to Bula’s. I fed 62-115 - Ray hauled wood to shed - Kids surprised Mr Metcalf - pressure cooker almost exploded. Up to Bula’s P.M. Ray + I.

April 4  Thur  Swell but cool. I fed 63- 106 - Falls + got Gro + took Ray’s lunch to him - Son had 3 teeth pulled + still bleeding - He, Ma + I to May’s P.M. + saw T.V. good.

April 5  Fri  My 47^th Birthday  Snow + sleet all day. ½” - I fed 57-108 - Kids gave me a surprise + gifts of towel + holders. Ray hose, Son radiators salt + peppers + film - Ma slip - Ines-blouse, Reta, earrings..

April 6  Sat  Showers + cold + windy P.M. Washed + mopped + Son waxed - He’s to Joanne’s P.M. Ray + I to see Maud + Bill + Ma to May’s - we had such a nice time. she made ice cream + cake.

April 7  Sun  Very windy all nite + day. Clothes dry. Church, Wendy + I. Up to Bula’s P.M. P.F. had progressive supper - I made cole slaw. Swell supper. Birthday cake + gifts too. 22 in all.

April 8   Mon  Cloudy - Snowing P.M. I fed 58-110 Wendy over for supper + she got hit on head with golf club by Ginny - Had stitches - She gave me earrings for birthday - Ironed all. Red cross all done. Gordon’s wife had boy - 7 lbs 15 oz. Timothy Gordon  Son helped Alvin wash buckets P.M. Its 11 P.M. Ray just gone to work

April 9  Tues  6” snow - going but 25^o P.M. + cold. I fed 59 - 113 - I gave “Sale” reading for Sonny's assembly A.M. - Grange P.M. Ray too - Played games - got + took May home.

April 10  Wed - Snow all gone - Sun out - swell. I fed 60-119 - Saw 1 act play after school. Joanne has leading part. Son’s first Base ball scrimmage + they lost to B.F. 4-1  Mended + T.V. P.M.

April 11  Thur  Swell-I fed 62-120 - Falls after + got gro. also school napkins, To Walpole P.M. + saw 3-1 act plays. Vilas won for best play. No school Fri.

April 12  Fri. Warm + showers - Cool P.M. washed + dry. Ray put saw rig on tractor - To Bob Sargents on Grange young couple comm. to write about Gordon. Sydney Butler’s shower at church P.M. Ma to Han’s  Son worked at Gowen’s + to Joanne’s P.M.

April 17  Wed.  Swell - I fed 64-130 - colored 200 eggs-saw baseball game - We beat Chas. [Charlestown] 17-9 - Son to Alstead P.M. Ray worked up to Earls all day - cutting wood.

April 18  Thur  Swellest day yet. I fed 63-121 - Falls + got gro. took Ray’s lunch to him. He sandpapered jeep - Ma + I to May’s P.M. I hemmed pants on Son’s new suit.

April 19  Fri  Warm + clear. I fed 60-125 - Easter eggs + prizes + all. Took Ester + saw Grace. Bula down to Hazel’s for day. Son hunted + to Joanne’s P.M. Washed head -

April 20  Sat  Swell + warm. hot to me. Ray + Son worked - I did too all day. Son, Joanne + I to Keene P.M. to Barbershop singing - So good. Gowens there too - Sat with them. 5:30 a.m. 12 pm.

April 21  Sun  Easter Sunday - Beautiful + warm. Son to Sunrise + Church later with us. Paul too. Paul’s candy made Easter baskets for kids. Up to Aunt Gladys afternoon + got fruit from Reta.

April 22  Mon.  Swell + warm. Washed + Dry. Ray cut wood for Clyde after supper + just left for work - 10:30 - Son fished after working all day for Gowens. Comm. meet at Gowens P.M.

April 24  Wed  Swell + hot  - 80^os - Ma at May’s - so good to be alone. Mr Taylor + Joanne here for supper. Margaret rode horse down + visited - Grace, Bula + Earl to cow sale.

April 25  Thur  Cloudy + cooler. Ray finished painting jeep - loops nice - bot home 16 qts milk from Maud. I baked all afternoon. Wrote Reta + Mrs Bemis. To Alstead with Son to get milk at Washburns + they had copy to Renz kids.

April 26  Fri  Swell - but need rain. Woods closed for luck of it - Falls with Ray + came back with Sonny. To May’s P.M. + Ma came home. Son + Joanne bowled at Keene.

April 27  Sat  Swell + hot. Washed, took storm windows off + washed windows - Made bread - Ray + I played cards at party P.M. Ray won booby prize - Its 1:15 - E.D.T.

April 28  Sun  Swell - rain in nite - Sam, Ruth + Victor here - they came home Wed from Fla. no church - Ruth + I picked mayflowers + dug dandelions - Son got new tennis racket.

April 30  Tues  Swell but much cooler + windy. I fed 57-115 - Every thing green + pretty. Esslinger + Holzinger up - Ray + son practiced ball. T.V.

May 1  Wed  Swell but cool - 36º A.M. Very windy. I fed 59-108. I dug dandelions + Ma too + I canned 11 pts. Ray plowed garden + also for Bowhay. Son played Vt. Academy + got beat 17-3.

May 2  Thur  Swell but cold. I fed 61-119 - To Falls + got gro + Son’s corsage. Saw ball game + Vilas bead Keene 10-6. To Bula’s P.M. + she put lilt in my hair - Saw hall at school Son is decorating  Ray bought Western Union Stock today. 25 shares - $20, a share.

May 3  Fri  Cold but clear. I fed 63-118 - Got home + cleaned + fixed room for Nile + Ines - + they got here 7:30 - Son + I to Senior prom + what a lovely time + dance - I did dance with Mr Metcalf.

May 4  Sat.  Swell + warm but 30’s P.M. cooked + washed all day. Herby + Ester here awhile - Aunt Gladys + Al here awhile. Ines, Nile, Ma, Ray + I rode to Charlestown + got ice cream + went to May’s + saw television - our T.V. smoked P.M. so it won’t work. Son had P.F. paper drive.

May 5  Sun  Swell + warm. Need rain. Church A.M. Very nice. Ines + Nile left about 4 P.M. had a good visit - Up to Bula’s big open house getting ready for sale tomorrow. Mil called on phone P.M. Son home all day just took it easy - cleaned yards - + listened to radio. T.V. still busted.

May 6  Mon  Swell + warm. I fed 58-85 - Bula’s big auction - highest in U. S. A. cattle averaged $1000.00 each. Maud + I to Fitzwilliam to lunch meeting + its not ‘til Wed Took Son to see yellow jeepster + he is buying it for $300. in Surry. Saw O.C. play put on by teenagers - very good. Ray just gone to work

May 7  Tues  Hot + clear - I fed 60-88. Saw Vilas beat Troy 8-7 - Son made 1 run. Ironed til 10:30 - Son sold his motorcycle to Bob Butler P.M. $50. Canned 3 pts - dandelions.

May 8  Wed  Hot + clear. I fed 60-98 - Maud + I to Fitzwilliam to School lunch meet - nice time - also meat loaf supper - good. Saw Nelly Crosby from Dublin. Son to bank for $300. Ray plowed 6 gardens.

May 9  Thur.  Hot + clear - never had weather like this before. Need rain very had. forest fires in lots of places - I fed 59-92 - Falls + to Lawyer’s about income tax. Tony in May’s hair P.M.

May 10  Fri  Hot A.M. cool after rain - I fed 60-81 - To Walpole to see game + Walpole won 7-5 - Rained at 4^th inning - Kibbey very mad - feels Walpole won unfair. Son very excited over car. Rain this afternoon + what a blessing - Thanks Father. Joann to Walpole with Ma + I.

May 22  Wed.  Swell all day - Rain P.M. I fed 55-92 - To Keene to Tax office - Can’t claim Ma as a dependent - But can Grace. Cop stopped me + plate light out. Ray fished - got 4 - Son lost to Troy. 17-1 - Royce boy spiked in leg bad - Son home 8:30 - Herb + Ester planted garden

May 23  Thur.  Swell + warm. I fed 59-92 - The first 6 grades gave me 4 - T.V. tables - so nice + I was so surprised - Bless them all. Maud didn’t feel to good. B.F. + took Ray’s lunch. Son home with sore throat. - To Dr. A.M. feels better P.M. he mowed lawns  I washed hair + bath.

May 24  Fri.  Swell but windy - School lunch ended + we served 196 a picnic lunch. Maud + I received lovely salad bowls + salt + pepper + vinegar + oil bottles to match. Sonny much better - had Dr. Tatum a.m. + he gave Son a shot + tables [tablets] to take. Joanne here + Son has just taken her home.

May 25  Sat.  Swell all day. I slept after Ray went to work til 9:30 - Wendy over to stay - Made donuts + coffee cake. Ray, Ma + I to turkey supper. Mil Harry + Ann here til 11:30 - Son better + to Joanne’s to surprise Birthday party for Beverly Neal.

May 26  Sun  Cloudy - Rain off + on. No church. I cleaned + cooked. Ball game - Alstead beat Chester - 8-5 - Paul up with Alice - She’s very nice - here for supper - Son fished + P.F. P.M.

May 27  Mon  Cloudy rain off + on. Wash + got most dry. Made 2 cakes. Saw Vilas beat Marlboro 4-3 - P.T.A. P.M. I served eats. Gave cake to Mrs Moultrop + flowers + pictures too.

May 29  Wed  Swell + clear - 44º P.M. Mended planted garden - Ray had car inspected - I helped him fix brakes. Saw Son’s team beat Vt. academy 5-4. Son made 1 run. All to No Spfld to cemetary [sic] + Joanne too. Then to Aunt G + its 12 now + we are sleepy.

May 30  Thur  Swell - Memorial day. Son marched in Langdon, Acworth + Alstead - Very good. Took Ray’s lunch to him + forgot fish chowder. He worked from 11-11 - Ma + I to Mays + I cut Hans hair. Son to Joanne’s -

May 31  Fri  Swell. baked A.M. cleaned kitchen + made 2 lattice work pieces for back porch. oil pipe broke in car. Took Son’s P.M. to go to Bula’s to Alice Davis party. Nice time.

June 1  Sat  Swell + warm - Son fixed jeep + car of oil pipe being broke. Tonite he is at drive in. We rode around + looked at watches + then saw T.V. at Mays.

June 2  Sun  Rain all day. Ma, Wendy + I to church. Ray + Son fished all day. Bula Earl, Grace + May down with 6 qts milk. Son from P.F. + he + I got nite crawlers.

June 3  Mon  Swell + washed + dry. Ray bot Son beautiful wrist watch - Benrus [?] + I bot Ray one - Sons $52. + Rays $32. I set out toms [tomatoes], + other plants - Son helped - Wendy over. Herb + Ester + Pat up + worked on their garden. Ray gone to work. I got rubarb [sic] P.M.

June 4  Tues  Swell - Made Aunt Gladys Anniversary cake - 3 pies + Muffins A.M. Ma, Wendy + I to ball game + saw Son be hero + bat in winning run to beat Keene J.H. 8-5 - We sure were proud. P.M. Son + Ray to Alstead + I finished cake - green yellow on white.

June 5  Wed  Swell + warm. Aunt G + Al - Bula Earl + Frances 2 kids + Margeret Charles + all - 13 in all. Aunt G. sick so left early - rest of us played baseball - Had such a nice time. Son to Alstead - Ray fished but no luck.

June 6  Thur  Cloudy all day. Wendy over all day + we went to Bula’s + Ann + Wendy over all day + we went to Bula’s + Ann + Wendy fell down cellar door - Ann hurt. Son to Jr + Sr Combo at Pool. Ma + I to May’s P.M. Met Mr + Mrs Austin. Han[s] birthday today.

June 7  Fri  Very windy + clear. Cool P.M. Son left on his class trip A.M. to Hampton Beach. Miss him P.M. Saw Frances A.M. up to Bula’s - cooked + ironed + picked strawberries - 1 Pt. Washed head + took bath. Mowed lawns - fixed lawn mower. Hans birthday party.

June 8  Sat  Swell all day. Miss Sonny so much. I finished lattice work + 2 trillis. Ray, Ma + I rode around + sort of waited for Sonny to come home but not yet. its 10 P.M.

June 9  Sun.  Son home at 12:30 last nite. Had swell time - bot 2 fish he caught. Church + children Sun [Children’s Sunday]. All to Baculerate [sic] for Son at school. Very nice. I took pictures. Then to Warren Pond + fished. Paul up P.M. played 2 games.

June 10  Mon  Swell + warm. Made cake for school. Made 46 cup cakes for Senior party Fri. Washed + dry. picked strawberries - Son to Movies with Joanne. Ray plowed Monty garden + gone to work.

June 14  Fri  Hottest day yet - Showers PM. Thanks for all. Son Graduated P.M. Wonderful all way through. Mrs Spooner + I gave the seniors a party after at Pool. So nice. Paul came + his girl. Son got so many things - radio from Paul.

June 15  Sat.  Very hot - 80º all day. I worked all day on Alumni banquet. 9 a.m. til 12 P.M. served 109 - Son worked at Gowen’s + came to banquet. Put on comm. for next year. Such good reports about Sonny every where I go. Makes us so proud of him.

June 16  Sun.  Hot. but getting used to it. Got up 8:30 + packed lunch + went to Hillsboro + saw Ruth, Sam + Vic. Son + Jimmy Howard together today + went swimming + P.M. he’s to Movies with Joanne.

July 26  Fri  Swell + cool. I picked 12 qts + Grace 10 qts blue berries in Joanne’s lot in E. Alstead. Froze them, canned 10 ½ qts beans + made 2 cakes P.M. I’m tired too - Son with Joanne  Ma picked over all beans + berries.

July 28  Sun.  Nice + rain too. To Henniker for picnic + surprise for Nile + Ines. 40^th anniversary. Gave them a radio - Clyde went May + Hans too. Son home - down to Joannes P.M. I bot 12 pullets from Herby P.M.

July 29  Mon  Hot - showers P.M. washed + dry. Fixed hen house for chick + also hens. Son home today - fixed his car + helped me get wire at Clydes. He up P.M. to watch fight. Ray to work at 11 - Son fishing in Warren Pond with Alvin.

July 30  Tues  Hot - Thunder storm P.M. cooler. I ironed + mended - helped Ray on chimney - he’s in attic - cut roof hole larger + it rained in. Son to Spencer’s P.M. to see ball game on T.V. Charles to N.Y. + Son doing his chores.

July 31  Wed  Hot + clear. Ray finished big brick on chimney + got 100 small brick to finish - Son + Joanne to Record hop in Charlestown. I picked 2 pails beans + got ready to can. Holzinger + boy up P.M.

August 1  Thur  Swell - cooler. Ray worked on chimney putting bricks on top. Son home to Dr. for poisen [sic] ivy - Had shot + tablets. Grace, Gladys Wood + I blue berrying. Ruth Powling + friend here awhile - To May’s P.M. cut Hans Hair.

August 2  Fri.  Clear + warm. Fall A.M. Ray on roof + Son helped. Tony Monosky by + helped. Slow. Son’s poisen [sic] ivy on gain. He’s up to Warren Pond P.M. I picked beans for May. baked. cleaned car. Bula + Grace in P.M. + saw T.V.          

August 3  Sat  Hot + clear. Cleaned + moped - Son home all day - on both arms now + he slept ‘til noon. Ray Ma + I had drive up Holden hill - Son out somewhere. Chips [Chip Woods] birthday -

August 4  Sun  Rain all day off + on. Church + it was so good to go. May had raspberries for us. Paul, Alice + Joanne here P.M. for chicken barbarque [sic] + Paul’s birthday Wed. He gave Alice a diamond.

August 5  Mon  Swell + cool. Washed - picked blue berries at Buffum’s Grace, Hans, Son + I. Also picked beans P.M. Ray fished ‘til 9:30 + to work. Son Fished with Alvin - 11:30 now.

August 6  Tues  Clear + Cool. Oil fire all day. Ray worked on roof. I ironed + put up 15 pts beans for May - Son worked today - he’s all better.

August 7  Wed  Ray finished chimney + we had fire in kitchen stove P.M. 40° A.M. + cold but warm in day. I started fence in back of hen house. Ray tore other chimney down. Son fishing P.M.

August 8  Thur  Swell + warm. Tomatoes getting ripe. Ray finished roof + cleaned off - looks nice  Ma + I to Falls + got 4 turkeys for church in our freezer. Son home P.M. tired - bed early. Got dress red + black nylon Reta sent up by Frances

August 9  Fri  Swell + hot. Ray put stone step + cut apple limbs on east side of house + cleaned up back yard. I took Relihan girls gift up + saw her gifts - to Pool to Maud + plan on trip to Plymouth -  P.M. to Erma Mason’s. + Ma to May’s. Son with Joanne.

August 10  Sat  Rain all day. No minstrel P.M. rode around + got ice cream at Aumond’s Charles home so Son through up to Bula - I watched late show on T.V. Good. All rest sleep.

August 11  Sun.  Swell + clear - one shower - too late for church. Paul + Alice up - Paul had tooth out in Keene hospital. Played Grafton + Alstead won 5-4 - 11 innings. Bula + kids down P.M.

August 12  Mon  Swell - cool P.M. washed + dry. Served + helped Ray put in water tank down in cellar. Aunt Gladys + Uncle Al here a minute. They got gold fish up to Center. Sonny out with Joanne.

August 13  [in pen] Tues  Swell but cool. Ironed + fixed dresses. Grange P.M. Children’s night - so cute - I took pictures of them all. Ray + Son late for supper as truck over bank at Gowen’s + Ray helped Dick get it up.

August 14  Wed  Swell. Hot - but windy. Finished ironing + Ray + I put up fence for chickens - He, Clyde + I to Keene - saw Ann + Ray in her Mother’s New house - all to base ball game under lights. Keene beat Alstead 18-0 - Son + Charles + Joanne there too

August 15  Thur  Clear + hot. B.F. A.M. for gro. Ester + Lester here for supper - good visit. Ma to May’s + I to Gowen’s to complete Grange report. Son home - I made cakes -

August 16  Fri  Swell - cooler P.M. I had charge of food sale - 6.80 - Made gate for chicken yard P.M. Son to drive-in. T.V. so funny. I’ve been watching alone.

August 17  Sat  Swell - Finished chicken yard + clipped wings + chicks out. Cut all of lilac trees by well + took to dump. Ray from 7-7 Son all done at Gowen’s. T.V. P.M.

August 18  Sun  Swell - clear + cool. Church + it seemed so good. Albert Key spoke - very good. Up to Mil’s afternoon + saw Harry Jr. + wife + baby. Ray to work early P.M. 7-7 - Son to movies - Ma + I T.V. P.M.

August 19  Mon.  Swell - small shower. Washed + dry. Nina + Ruth bot Kathy over + left her. Also apples - baked. Played games P.M. T.V. awhile. Ray to work at 11 P.M.

August 20  Tues.  Swell - warm - cool A. + P.M. To Keene with Sonny. He saw Navy recruiting today got ‘til Thur to make up his mind. Kathy + I shopped. Wendy + Johnny Holzinger here P.M. Ray fished but no luck.

August 21  Wed  Swell + warm.  Baked A.M. to Acworth to Old Home day. Eric + Frances there. Eric spoke. Aunt G + Al there too. To Drive in P.M. to see “Spirit of St. Louis.” Good.

August 22  Thur  Swell + warm - need rain. B.F. A.M. + Kathy + Wendy spent money in 10¢ store. Sonny bought Joanne up tonite + I did so enjoy having them here - We’ll miss him so. Sonny signed up in Navy - God give us strength + him too to do thy will.

August 23  Fri  Swell day but hot - cold A. + P.M. Had Tony at Don’s sisters in Chastown - cooked afternoon - Kathy to Wendy’s birthday party. Son to Keene P.M. to Fair - Charles too. He played golf with Everett Bragg.

August 24  Sat.  Swell - Thanks for rain. Washed + dry - packed - cleaned + cooked. Son home all day - all up to Lebanon P.M. + Alstead lost 3-0 - Paul played - he + Alice here P.M.

August 25  Sun.  Rain. Left Alstead at 9 A.M. 8 P.M. in Plymouth. Dinner in Laconia with Frances - Boat ride on Big lake. Had fried clams supper + now bed. School work shop at Plymouth N.H.

August 26  Mon.  Rain A.M. Sun afternoon. 2 classes today. Steam cooking, sanitation, dried egg use. Banquet P.M. Gift wrapping after. Mollie [Nellie?] Crosley, Ruth Jeffery, Maud + I - what fun.

August 27  [in pen] Tues.  Swell all day. Group discussion + picnic supper on lawn. Plenty to eat. Luncheon not so much but I enjoyed it. Maud + I to Movies P.M. “Jeanne Eagels” no good.

August 28  Wed  Swell - Home P.M. All O.K. Ray + Son gone deep sea fishing - Son got 5 - Ray none. 2 lobsters. Harry Pettersen very sick + going to Hanover in A.M. Something in head.

August 29  Thur  Swell - 12 P.M. kids just left. 15 here to surprise Sonny-Joanne + Bev Neal gave it. So nice and all had a swell time. Falls + got gro. Son worked on his car.

August 30  Fri  Swell - Thanks for Rain + Sonny + Ray fixing Son’s car - He’s at Movies P.M. with Joanne + Andy. Ma + I to May’s - Took Helen Neal too. Cooked turkey for Sonny.

August 31  Sat Swell - Need rain. Had turkey + all the fixings for Son. Then P.M. We all went Bowling in Keene. Bula Earl Grace + all. So much fun. Paul here P.M.

September 2  Mon. Swell - all day. Washed + dry. Rain P.M. all so thankful. Joanne here all after + evening. Ma + I to Grange rehearsel + special meet. Voted for Buss + Bellows boys. Son got bananas for split.

September 3  Tues  Sonny left today - train 1 hr late. Father thy love with Sonny + us too. Rain some but clear + hot now. How terrible we feel - Ray has no desire to keep on - how we miss him - Ma + I to Walpole - 1st degree + home right after. Ray in bed.

September 4  Wed  Rain P.M. - Need it so. Sonny called last night + tonite too. He passed + on way to Great Lakes. Ray worked on cellar + we went up to see Harry + Mil P.M. Harry came home today. Saw Joanne - Wendy school.

September 5  Thur.  Clear + cool. Falls shopping - Ray mowed church yard + by road here. Mil + little Harry came for corn. I froze some + canned squash. Sprinkled clothes P.M. Wrote Sonny. Got letter + card from him - he is at Great lakes now.

Ines, Mile, Paul + Alice here all day. 2 Baseball games - we won 1-0 lost 6-5 - Finished ironing - going to Write Sonny now.

September 11  Wed  Rained in night - Nice today. To Keene with Ray to Dr. Ford. Eye good. To May’s P.M. T.V. - Ray fixed jeep brakes. I started cleaning Son’s room.

September 12  Thur  Swell - finished Son’s room - a letter from him today from Waukegan. Likes it - Saw Joanne, Maud - to Bula’s P.M. Frances called from Bascom’s + asked Grace to come up there for winter. letter from Son

September 14  Sat  Swell - made mustard pickle - took 2 cakes to Joanne’s for Mrs Moultrop. letter from Son + he is homesick - Up to Aunt G P.M. + saw Lester. Sent 3 letters to Sonny.

September 15  Sun. Swell rain late after noon. No church - Ray fixed tail pipe on car. To Hillsboro + saw Ruth, Sam + Vic. Saw Red Sox get beat by Tigers 7-1- Bula down P.M. I set her hair. Wrote long letter to Sonny. Ray mailed one too. God Bless him.

September 16  Mon.  Windy A.M. washed + dry. Rained good P.M. Letter from Sonny - cheerful again. Wendy has loose tooth. Donny showed us tiny calf. Wrote Sonny + T.V. P.M. Gonna take bath. Time for Ray to go to work.

September 17  Tues  Clear + cool - ironed - paper from Son all about camp - Pressed suits + dresses. Washed car. Wendy + I to garden + got corn for Frances. Holzinger up P.M.

September 18  Wed  Swell - cool AM + P.M. hot rest. Ray + I took Aunt Gladys + Uncle to see Frances in Laconia - Swell all way. To Weirs + also saw Tilton Mansion in Tilton. Home - 10 P.M.

September 19  Thur  Swell all day. Falls A.M. gro, gift Paul Hat + purse for me - Made 9 qts tomatoe [sic] mincemeat - canned 5 qts tomatoes - To May’s P.M. + T.V. letter from Sonny. He’s still in holding camp.

September 20  Fri  Swell + warm. Baked 4 pies, made corn relish - Joanne up P.M. + painted trilles [sic] for her play. We to Falls picked up Mr Walker + got Paul some thing for Son. Joanne got something too.

September 21  [written in pen] Sat  Cloudy + very hot + humid - Joanne, Mr Walker, Ray + I to Northampton to Paul + Alice’s wedding - Very nice. Mr Walker went home P.M. 2 letters from Sonny + he is in Boot camp now. Bless his heart.

September 22  Sun  Very hot + muggy. No church but helped Helen decorate Wendy’s doll carriage  Ray to chicken shoot - + to work now - Wind blowing -

September 23  Mon.  Cloudy + cooler. Rained hard in P.M. Washed - Phoned 2 hrs. about Grange float + P.T.A. Worked on P.T.A. supper from 5 to 10 P.M. big success - reception to teachers - Good bunch of girls to work with.

September 24  Tues  10° P.M. cool. Got float ready to decorate. Got flowers at Erma’s. Grange P.M. picked corn for May + Avis - Alvin + Nancy [Clark] bot baby to Grange. Just like Alvin.

September 25  Wed  Swell  34° A.M. Thanks no frost. Garden so good still - corn + all still growing. Paul + Alice here for nite. They are so happy. To School to put up exhibit + help Aunt Gladys fix her’s [sic]. Alice set my hair. We surely like her.

September 26  Thur  Cold P.M. got all stuff in garden covered. Vilas Fair - Grange float - Dot. Avis + I on it - 2nd prize. Wendy’s 2 prize. I helped seniors in booth. 3 - 1 act plays. P.M. good. took Maud. Alice + Paul gone home.

September 27  Fri  Cold P.M. hard frost last P.M. but I saved Veg. Aunt G + A here + got lamps + left me 3 - Ester + Richard here P.M. + saw T.V. Ma + I to Falls after 5 + got gro. God Bless him. letter from Son + I airmailed him 1 + wrote 1 P.M.

September 28  Sat  Cold A.M. + P.M. - 28° A.M. - 32° P.M. letter from Son. Washed + ironed - baked. Waited on tables at church - Ray tired so stayed home - He + I TV til 12.

September 29  Sun.  Swell day - warm. Church - nice. Saw Jimmy Howard in uniform - he’s home on leave. Went to chicken shoot - Ray bot one- $1.75 - Saw Grace + Charles - rest sleep. Nile + Ines here for supper. I finely [sic] got letter written to Sonny.

September 30  Mon  Swell - First day school lunch. Fed 55 - Maud 113. Ray got some cider P.M. good. Also got channel 5 N.Y. on T.V. good boxing matches. Thanks for thy love Father.

October 1  Tues  Swell + warm. Shower at noon. I fed 57-104. Raked yard + cut Iris near barn. Took all to dump. May, Joe + son from N.Y. here PM. had cider + donuts + Wrote Son. T.V. good.

October 2  Wed  Swell - cool. I fed 56-117 - No letter from Son. I wrote him + Alice Dave P.M. Ray got fire in furnace + water is hot. Finish tomorrow. I know

October 3  Thurs  Swell + leaves beautiful - Just wrote Sonny + Paul. Put 7 turkeys in freezer P.M. To [Bellows] Falls [Vermont] for gro[ceries] + took Ray’s lunch to him. He finished hot water from furnace. So nice. Charles’ [Simmons] birthday.

October 4  Fri  Swell + warm. Porky kitty died 9:20 P.M. had worms. Letter from Son + he’s O.K. I wrote him - ground pickles + called Joanne. She got 2 letters [from Sonny].

October 5  Sat.  Swell - need rain - Washed - canned 18 jars picille [pickle?] - picked squash - sorted squash - baked + Clyde here for supper. To May’s P.M. letter from Son -

October 6  Sun  Beautiful day. Henniker for dinner + apples - 7 bu. Bula + Grace here P.M. Mag + Chas [Margaret & Charlie Simmons, Bula’s kids, Irene’s niece and nephew] at P.F. Tunney [the dog] + I went for milk. Ray working. Braves beat Yanks. Wrote Son. Leaves are pretty.

October 7  Mon  Swell - little rain.. Need more. I fed 62-128. M[undecipherable] home made rolls afternoon for Tues. Ray fixed Philips’ saw. I picked cukes for Mrs Estabrook + May.

October 8  Tues  Rain all day + still - 11 P.M. just got home from Grange - All put back in same chairs - I fed 65-133 - Grace Ellis + I on supper com.[mittee for] cake + coffee.

October 9  Wed  Beautiful day. Oh foiliage [sic] is so beautiful. Washed storm windows also house windows inside + out. Washed front porch. fixed pickle - Went after Grace P.M. she’s here. 2 letters from Son. I wrote him.

October 10  Thur  Swell - Got on storm windows - killed 2 black hens + froze one. Grace helped me. Ray sawed wood. Joanne up P.M. Sonny called so good to hear him. Son called at 7 P.M. 6 there. from Chicago Ill.

October 11  Fri  33° P.M. quite cold. Falls + paid light + Gas [bill] - Grace paid hospital. She + I dug beets + carrots + I canned beets. Ray cut wood. To May in P.M. took apples - Got turkey for Thanksgiving

October 12  Sat.  26° A.M. 32° P.M. Made choc chiffon for Mrs Morrissey - Washed, baked - canned 11 qts beets - Paul + Alice here for nite. Paul gone coon hunting - Grace, Alice + I got cider + donuts. - T.V. all.

October 13  Sun.  Swell - not so cold. No church. Sam Ruth + Victor came for all day. Cooked big dinner + we got all turnips in + I waxed some. Paul + Alice ate supper at Gowen’s. Miss Son. Wrote Sonny tonite.

October 14  Mon  Swell - warm - School again. I fed 58-135. Fixed carrots + canned 11 pts - waxed more turnips. letter from Sonny. He is so good about writing. Holzinger up P.M. about court tomorrow. He called Paul. 

October 15  Tues  Swell - warm. I fed 60 + 135 - Ray + Paul to Court in Woodstock + Holzinger lost. Did not write Son but will tomorrow. Ray tired as he hasn’t slept for 36 hrs.

October 16  Wed  Swell - need rain + lots of it. I fed 63-129 - Ester, Richard, Maud + Bill up P.M. gave Maud squash. Ray fished + got 3 - late for supper.

October 17  Thur. Swell + Rain P.M. Thanks be. letter from Son - sent him one. Falls + to Dr. Tatem - Grace fine. She told me a lot that had been bothering her - God Bless her and Son + all.

October 18  Fri  Rain - Thanks Father for it. Grace, Avis, Maud + I to Spfld. to rummage sale - got bargains. Grace left with Frances for Laconia - Ma + I to May’s P.M. I do so hope Grace will be happy. Letter from Son.

October 21  Mon  Swell but cold - 26° A.M. 32 P.M. I fed 64-135 - ironed + watched T.V. P.M. Ray just gone to work. starter on jeep busted. No letter from Son. Ray’s gonna write tonite.

October 22  Tues  Swell - 1 letter from Son - he is having it tough - service week. Grange P.M. I fed 60-133 - I have charge of refreshments in Grange. Grace Ellis too.

October 23  Wed  Swell - I fed 60-135 - I helped Ray in wood after school - Then up to Aunt Glady’s for supper + T.V. 2 letters from Son + he’s much more cheerful - Thanks. Sent package to Son.

October 24  Thur  Rain all day - wind P.M. getting colder. I fed 61-132 - got out early + to Falls - No letter but I wrote + made fudge to send to him. letter from Reta.

October 25  Fri  Cool + windy - 35° P.M. letter from Son, Grace + Mrs. Leene [Lune?]. Ray hurt back last night + Boss’ son hurt at Plant + rushed to hospital. I fed 59-123 - Baked P.M. pies. Wrote Grace.

October 26  Sat  Cool all day. Washed + some dry raked yard + carried leaves away. Cleaned hen house + painted roost. Joanne up + I waited over x road but late. Son called from Chicago 9:00 PM

October 27  Sun  Swell - cool. Church + ordered Xmas cards from Edney’s - ironed + wrote Son afternoon. Ray got wood + took car to garage - fixed films to send in.

October 28  Mon  Cloudy + cold - I fed 54-132 - letter from Son - I wrote Mrs Bemis - Saw Prince + Pauper on T.V. good. Ray had car inspected + just gone to work. 11. letter from Son.

October 29  Tues  Cloudy + cool. I fed 58-131 - I feel rotten P.M. took asperin [sic], hot drink + hot water bottle to bed - I helped Ray saw wood after school. Ester, Herb + Rich up. Ester’s birthday.

October 30  Wed  I fed 57-132 - Made pies for region meeting. next Thur. I haven’t eaten hardly anything all day. Feel some better P.M. T.V. awhile but bed.

October 31  Thur  Halloween. I fed 57-130 my cold on gain. letter from Son + I wrote him. Also sent cards to Spooner, Mrs Fitzgerald, Aunt G + Helen + Don - their Anniversary 1st.

November 1  Fri  Rain P.M. Thanks for it. I fed 56-131 - Ma + I to So Acworth + installed officers - Gordon main one. Letter from Son + Paper too - also from Grace.

November 2  Sat. Rain all day. Washed - baked + served - Washed head - Wrote Son + Grace - T.V. P.M. + I rested. Thanks Father for strength to do thy will.

November 3  Sun  Rain all day. We are so thankful. Did not attend church. Took salts for my cold. To Keene + Ray got work clothes + we saw Ann + Ray [Nye]. Rode over Keene + saw Mary Parkers’ house - brick wall kitchen so pretty. Wrote Grace.

November 4  Mon  Rain off + on. Cooler. I fed 52-118 - lots sick - Up to Sunapee P.M. + helped Gordon install 3 granges. I sang. Went up with Alvin + Nancy, Mrs Carman + Avis.

November 5  Tues  Rain off + on. I fed 55-115 - still sick. Bob Sargent - Minister has boy + Goss’ do too - born Mon. Wrote Son. T.V. good P.M. Helped Ray saw wood.

November 6  Wed  Cloudy - Snow flouries [sic] AM - clear + cool P.M. Full Moon. I fed 48-115. Up to Bula’s P.M. + got eggs + cake pans. Ray hurt back again sawing wood. All ready for tomorrow P.M.

November 7  Thur  Cold + clear - I fed 51-104 - Supper for school lunch workers - 40 - got home at 8:45 - Pictures of Son in uniform so good - 2 letters from him. I wrote - Ray better.

November 8  Fri  Raining hard - So thankful. I fed 52-107 - Pictures from Son - big + little - so good. Falls + put Sons 350. in bank - saw Ray - To May’s P.M. letter from Son + Reta.

November 9  Sat.  Cold + windy. washed + ironed P.M. Paul + Alice here - Paul came last nite + hunted in Vt. Ray, Ma + I to train for Alice. T.V. P.M. Paul slept. - Alice hair cut. looks good.

November 10  Sun  very cold - 26 - windy - furnace going. Church A.M. Ester + Herby up + played cars - Ardis + Friend here. Glenn Bascom + Rodney here for church. Paul no luck. left 9 P.M. Made fudge for Son + wrote him.

November 11  Mon.  18° A.M. 22° P.M. Cold. I fed 57-118. My voice gone almost. Ray disgusted with furnace - but he got it working - I started letter to Son + Grace. Sent fudge

November 12  Tues  I fed 56-106. Pea soup - a riot. Grange P.M. Avis + I put on refreshments. Helped Ray put on banking [against the house, as insulation for the winter] - Ester + Herby up early + stayed with Ray. letter from Son.

November 13  Wed  22° A.M. 40° P.M. I fed 52 - 121 - Ray deer hunted with Harrington + Dorr [?] up Canaan [?]. [Does anyone have clue what this might be? I can’t read her writing.] I put banking under front porch. Ester + Richard up P.M. Im tired. Wrote Grace + Son

November 14  Thur  50° P.M. rain - need it. I fed 48-124 - Falls after school. Baked wedding cake for Monty girls’ wedding - Nov 30. Ray put banking on front of house. Wrote Son + got letter from him.

November 15  Fri  Warm + clear - I fed 35-120 - Lots sick - 54 out in El.[ementary] School. Ray finished banking. Ma + I to May’s P.M. I cut Hans hair -

November 16  Sat.  Sonny called right after his graduation - so glad to hear his voice. Joann bot gift from she + son. Bula, Earl Ray + I had supper at “Ox Yoke” Movies - our 25^th Anniversary -

November 17  Sun  Swell - cloudy. Church - ordered storm door + windows - Aluminum - Herby + Ester up P.M. I wrote Son. Ester trying to adopt her cousin’s unborn baby.

November 18  Mon  Raining P.M. I fed 45-116 - Wendy came home sick - I painted - Watched T.V. P.M. too tired for anything else. Ray just gone to work. 10:45 - God bless all.

November 19  Tues  Rain all day. I fed 45-121 - letter from Son, Mrs Bemis + Mrs Fitzgerald - old milk customer. Ray + I have runs. Ester + Herby up. I cut hair.

November 20  Wed.  Cold + windy. 38° P.M. I fed 51-116 - Kids half day. Wendy came over to Hi school. letter from Son - he’s so happy - 2 days more. I finished painting 1 lattice work. Joanne up.

November 21  Thur  Swell - cool - I fed 54-124 - Falls after - took Wendy. Her Ma in Keene. Frosted cake for Ester for Richard’s birthday - letter from Son. He home tomorrow

November 22  Fri  I fed 54-126 - worked all evening - cleaned + found squash eaten by mice + set trap - got one. Son called from Boston 11:45 + Ray, Joanne + I to Greenfield + met 230 [2:30 a.m.] train. Sonny home 4 a.m. Thank God!!

November 23  Sat.  Ray so tired - Son + I slept ‘til 10 - but Ray had hard day at Plant. he’s in bed - Son to Joanne’s - So good to have him home, he is a wonderful boy. Thanks Father. I turned up his Navy pants + ironed.

November 24  Cold - Church - all went. Everybody glad to see Son. Joanne, Paul + Alice here for dinner + all went to May’s - got $30. as gift - Ironed P.M. Son took Jo home. Wonderful Anniversary surprise at May’s

November 25  Mon  Swell - I fed 58-131 - Worked til almost 5 - on turkeys + squash. Set up tables at Grange P.M. also made salad for Grange - Son + Jo up to Alvin’s for supper.

November 26  Tues  10° P.M. very cold. I fed 61-142 - Turkey dinner - Also Grange P.M. + We fed 118 - Instalation [sic] - Carl Adams + Pamona Grange too. Its after 1100  Son stayed at Joanne’s

November 27  Wed  6° above - cold - I fed 56-131  Made pies after school - Tunny very sick. Son took him to Vets. 104° fever + inflamation [sic] on back from dog fight. Ray fixed car. Aluminum door + windows came.

November 28  Thur  Thanksgiving day - Cloudy but warmer. 50°s all day. Son helped Gordon A.M. Ray took May + Hans to train - Ma + Clyde to Ann’s + rest of us to Bula’s for dinner. In their new home. So pretty + nice - Son + Jo to Movies

November 29  Fri  Rain all day. Son, Joanne, Ray + I to Laconia - Saw Grace + all - had dinner - Saw Santa in Rocket. To Henniker + had supper - home 9:30.

November 30  Sat.  Snowed - ground white. Washed + cooked. Son hunted - Ray fussed over front storm door. Saw Alumni beat Vilas in girls + boys games. Son played - good game 65-45.

December 1  Sun  Very windy + cold - 20°s all day. No church - up at 5 + its 10:45 P.M. Son, Paul, Ray + Bob from plant hunted all day - No deer. I cooked turkey + it was raw for supper. Joanne up. Holzinger up PM.

December 2  Mon  Cold + windy - 20° + 30°s all day. I fed 62-128. Paul + Alice left. He, Son + Ray hunted no luck. Son to Joanne’s P.M. took bath. Our water acting up - Ray got gal [gallon?] at Drewsville.

December 3  Tues  Son shot a 9 point - 120 lbs Buck  Cloudy + cold - I fed 62-132 - Son + Ray took deer all over Alstead - Ray didn’t get a shot at it. Holzinger wounded it last nite - Joanne up + lots of see deer. I wrote Thanks note.

December 4  Wed  Cloudy + cold. No snow but S. of here lots. I fed 62 - 138 - Son took Joanne out to supper We T.V. - Gladys, Bub + kids over to see deer. Mosher called P.M. - He + Son leave Sat. noon for Spfld.

December 5  Thur  Cold - Need rain - I fed 63-140 - I left oven on at school - silver in it. Falls after school. Son Ma + I. Ray went back to work - took his lunch. Son Joanne + I cut up deer P.M. had fun.

December 6  Fri  Cloudy - warmer P.M. I fed 60-134 - Up to West Leb. [Lebanon, N.H.] P.M. to BB game - Vilas J.V. won but Vilas Varsity lost 75-61. Son, Joanne, Bruce Bellows + Ethel Clark.

December 7  Sat.  Sonny left today - 1:30 - House so empty. Rained all day, thanks. Son got me water to wash. Joanne up to dinner. Had deer steak + cow peas. She bot cake - Andy [Joanne’s sister, Andrea] made. Why didn’t I have him call?

December 8  Sun  Cloudy - 30°s all day. Church A.M. Retired minister - Bob away. Son called from Va. at noon. He got there 5 a.m. -3 planes - so good to hear him - God Bless him.

December 9  Mon  Rain + freez [sic] all day. Took jeep + starter locked - $1.00 to get fixed - Ray had flat on car A.M. I fed 53-127. Wrote cards + letters. Son called - at 5 - week off Xmas.

December 10  Tues  Rain hard all day. I fed 56-127 - Mr. Taylor put storm door on front porch. looks nice too - Ironed - Ray to BB game - Vilas lost 41-75 Charlestown.

December 11  Wed  Sun A.M. snow. 4” + cold P.M. I fed - 60-130 - Erma Butler died last P.M. 11. Funeral Sat. 10 A.M. Tumor of brain. Ray put in registra [register?] N. end living room.  Dr. today - eye good. Xmas cards - letter to Grace.

December 12  Thur.  16° AM - 12° P.M. cold. I fed 60-137 - I had jeep - Ray car. Did not go to Falls. Wrote Xmas letters, + cards - Son too. Mil - called P.M.

December 13  Fri  Cold - I fed 60-130 - Ma + I to Falls + shopped ‘til 6 P.M. home + to bed - I’m so tired -

December 14  Sat  Swell + warmer. Erma’s funeral A.M. big turn out - lovely flowers. Ester’s aunt had girl yesterday + Ester is going to get her. Joanne up to supper + Son called - still don’t like Va. Nil, Harry, Edna + Bill here for evening - took Jo home.

December 15  Sun  Swell - no church. jeep for Milk + Wendy - starter locked. Ray came + Fixed it. He + boss hunted A.M. No luck. Church P.M. Xmas program. White gifts - went with Helen + Wendy.

December 16  Mon  Swell - I fed 59-137 - Letter from Son + one from Harold Bushey - from Germany. wrote Xmas cards. + T.V. Ray just gone to work. God Bless us all + Son too.

December 17  Tues  16° A.M. cold. I fed 61-137 - Grange P.M. letter from Son. I wrote him. Ray fixed car today + its swell now. New exhaust pipe + front wheels fixed.

December 18  Wed  30° P.M. warm in house too. I fed 63-134 - Ray hunted - no luck. No letter from son. I wrote Xmas cards + T.V. P.M. Dr Bullock died aweek [sic] ago -

December 19  Thur  Rain all day - I fed 66-141  Turkey dinner. Falls - Xmas shopped. Got out rest of cards P.M. its 12 - Ray just got home.

December 20  Fri  Very warm + rain all day. I fed 64-122 - Home early + fixed hen house. letter from Son. Cards too. Ironed til 10:30 all done. Out of school til 2nd of Jan. Thanks Father for being with Son + Ray

December 21  Sat  Very warm all day - cleaned + waxed floors - put pine boughs on porch + lights in them. Joanne up to talk to Son. I did up gifts for Ines + Nile to take  Son - called - so good to talk to him  Grace too.

December 22  Sun  Swell all day. 26° P.M. No church. Ines + Nile here to dinner + supper. Ann + Ray up P.M. Ray got Xmas tree - I cut out stencils P.M. to put on windows. Thanks Father

December 23  Mon  Swell - washed - Ray got up at 1 + went to Plant + had Xmas dinner. Put up Xmas cards like tree. To Falls + shopped + paid bills. Did up gifts + saw T.V. P.M. Thanks for strength.

December 24  Tues  30° P.M. very windy. Just put up + decorated tree. Baked all day. Ray slept - Bula Earl + all down P.M. Ma + I to Joanne’s, Edney’s + couldn’t start car. Clinton helped us by pushing.

December 25  Wed  Swell - 22° P.M. Ma to May’s - Ray + I to Nina’s in Henniker for dinner - Such a nice time - Then saw Ruth + Sam + back for Ma at May’s. Holzinger up P.M. with gifts. Paul + Alice called P.M.

December 26  Thur  Rained hard all day. 11 PM + its just quit. Falls shopping. Finished Xmas + got Turkey + etc. Fixed up Xmas lights. Grange P.M. Xmas party. I got aprons. Ma too  Ray put on aluminum storm window in Son’s room card + letter from Son. God Bless him.

December 27  Fri  Clear + cold - 22° - very windy all day Baked all day. Ray put on 2nd storm window up stairs + put panes in in my room up stairs. Ma + I to see May + Hans - cut their hair. Its 11.

December 28  Sat.  Swell all day. Cleaned + cooked. Roasted turkey. Cleaned yard + burned leaves. Wendy + Chippy over. Mr Holzinger + John up P.M. Its 10:30 so going to bed. No word yet from Son.

December 29  Sun  Son came on 2:30 A.M. train - Ray, Joanne + I went to meet him. blow out. Home in taxi - no spare. Swell all day. 40°s- Ray found spare at Garage. $2. fine for over parking. Had lovely dinner. + tree after. So many useful + nice things - Son so happy to be home. Joanne, May + Hans here. Son + Jo to Movies. Herbert called Ester in S.C. Bula Earl + all here

December 30  Mon  Swell - 40° all day. Cloudy most. I washed - Son slept til noon then took Jo to Falls to see about tires. Ray slept til 4 P.M. Jo here for Supper + we all went to Bula’s. Bobby has bird + dog so cute. Ray to work. Wendy bot candy over to Sonny so cute.

December 31  Tues  Swell - cloudy - 40°s all day. Joanne up all day. Ironed + cooked. Wendy over. Jo, Son + I bowling P.M. Ray stayed with Ma. I’m so lame. Stopped by cap. 6 eggs today - 10 hens. not bad.

Memorandum  Thanks Father for being with us through 57 and Thanks for thy guidance, protection + wisdom in us all through 58. Thy will be done.
