My artwork is generally characterized by imagery inspired by the natural world, vibrant color, and meticulous attention to surface and detail of form. My latest works are a series called "Cloud Anatomy," which includes both archival injet prints of clouds and painted reliefs. I have completed two public art mural commissions (images below) Some of my earlier work in paintings, drawings and prints can also be found here. I welcome your inquiries at helen@helenglazer.com. Works in Progress: My interest in the insights of chaos and complexity theories and how they can be seen operating in the natural world has influenced my work for a few years. Since February, I have been engaging with these concepts more directly in a new series (above left and left). These works are derived from photographs I took of clouds, then worked on in Photoshop to isolate and bring out the intricacies of the form. Working with Direct Dimensions, a firm that does digital 3D imaging, I translated these ephemeral forms into a tangible three-dimensional relief sculpture. The images you see here are also being printed as high-quality inkjet prints, incorporating color. See description and detail image of the sculpture and the cloud photograph series. Katzen Arts Center, American University: Rise (above right), will be exhibited and offered for sale as part of Selections from the WPA Art File to benefit Washington Project for the Arts at the museum in the Katzen Center from Feb. 5 to Mar. 23. Exhibit curator: Kathryn Wat of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Artrageous: An exhibit of seven of my wall reliefs appearing at the Bloomingdale's at White Flint Mall in Kensington, MD, on the main floor, September 6 - October 9, 2007, as part of a nationwide store event with the theme "Artrageous." Artist's Profile: In March 2004, writer Geoffrey Himes, whose credits include the Washington Post and reviews for NPR, wrote a profile of me, which goes into my artistic development over the years, working process and conceptual framework. Read it here. Monumental Bike Tours: In conjunction with the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts periodically offers a Mural Tour of downtown Baltimore (generally in the spring and autumn) led by Ralph Brown, which include my mural in Sowebo below right. Check their web site for the next tour. |
