A photograph of a cloud was transformed into a three-dimensional wall-hung relief with the assistance of digital technology.

Below: A detail and pictures of the stages of the process of capturing an ephemeral form in a permanent medium.

Shown left: Starting with a photograph of clouds, a digitally edited version was created to enhance the contrast, isolate the forms, and bring out their spatial and textural aspects. A 3D digital rendering was created with the assistance of a technician, then a rapid prototype was milled in high-density foam. A mold was made from the foam model and the sculpture above was cast.
