REFLECTIONS

"He stuck with me right from the beginning when I was eighteen and didn't think I could even play. He kept encouraging me and helping me along. Herb would also do anything for you; if you called and said your car wouldn't start, he'd drive all the way to Newport, RI to pick you up. That's the way he was!".

Dave Zinno, acoustic bassist and teacher

"I first met Herb when I was 11 or 12 years old. He was playing with Bill Britto, Jimmy Lomba and with my uncles in the Skyliners. He was in my early years, a real mentor, someone I always hoped to play with and eventually had the great pleasure of doing so for many years."

Rick Britto, saxophonist, pianist, and educator

"One of the great things about Herb was that even with all of his experience, wisdom and mentoring, he still had the eagerness to play of a young cat just starting out. I remember him driving up from New Bedford to play a little, low paying gig with me, playing his heart out, and then expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play. He was a monster player who would make you feel comfortable even if you weren't in his league."
