May 18, 2003 - 47 Week Birthday!
We ran a couple of errands today. The first one was to Babies R Us to get the girls new
car seats. Their current car seats go to 22 lbs and/or 19 inches. Both girls last recorded
measurements were 19.5 inches so it's time to move up a car seat. Unfortunately, these car
seats will require us to move our seats up even more in the Saturn, so we may try to hold off
a few more weeks until the Honda comes. They are much more comfy then their old ones as Jocelyn
can attest to! Mom put her down in one when she was fussing and she perked right up!

We also bought a sippy cup with a straw and Kirsten thinks that is great, she drinks out of it all
the time if it is left out. Formula isn't her favorite in it, she much prefers water, but either
will work.
Kirsten and mom went to the grocery store today while Jocelyn and dad stayed home. Jocelyn was
originally going with mom as she usually has more patience for errands, but she spit up and was
generally unhappy after her feeding. Mom bought Kirsten many types of people food she could eat.
She just isn't happy eating runny baby food so it is time to move on. She especially likes green
beans right now!

It was a beautiful day here today. So mom called a friend she has met through various avenues
and we went for a walk in the park with her twin girls, Daphne and Sophie. We played on the
swings and hung out in the grass. Jocelyn did not like her hat and would rip it off at any
given opportunity. The flower hats they were given have chin straps, so she may find herself
wearing that hat a lot.

Mom had book club at the house in the evening so both girls were shown off a bit. Kirsten really
wanted to be part of the party when she was taken upstairs by dad.
Jocelyn is still spitting up at least twice a day.
May 20, 2003 - The girls are 38 weeks old!
Jocelyn woke up at 7:30 AM this morning as she usually does. She sticks to her routine very well.
Kirsten was pooped out from yesterday, and slept until 9:00 AM. We went to Rebecca's today and hung out
and played. Kirsten ate lunch with all the other babies and had green beans, mandarian oranges,
banana bread, macaroni & cheese and Kix and loved it all. We are definately moving to people food.
Jocelyn sat with us all, but would not put anything in her mouth. As per their personalities,
Kirsten was into everything and loved all the toys and Jocelyn hung back and watched. She was
just getting comfortable by the time we left.

Catherine came over for a few hours this afternoon. Kirsten likes to play peek a boo with her
and follow her around. Dad read to all the girls as Eric was fixing our computer and mom was
making dinner. The girls have really decided they like books now. Kirsten will often go over
to the book basket and bring out a book and likes to sit with us. Jocelyn loves to touch every
page and look carefully at everything.

Dr. McPhee called to check in on Jocelyn, but mom missed the call. She is still spitting up a lot
and Dr. McPhee said on the message that she wasn't sure what she was going to do if she was still
spitting up. Jocelyn now has a runny nose again and a cough. We won't catch up with Dr. McPhee
again until Thursday. Dr. McPhee is also working on getting all their blood tests ordered from
all doctors that would want them so we only have to do it once.
May 21, 2003
Jocelyn weighs 17 lbs. 5 oz. Head 44.5 cm Length 28.5 inches
Kirsten weighs 17 lbs. 2 oz. Length 29 inches
We don't think they've lost weight, the scales are just different everywhere we go!
This morning the girls and mom went to the zoo for the first time! On the way there, Jocelyn
pulled out her tube. We went with four other moms with twins and were quite the spectacle.
The girls weren't that interested in the animals, but did a lot of people watching. Kirsten
would not nap at all, she was too busy. We went home a little earlier than everyone as eating
on the go is not something we are very good at doing.
After some food and a quick nap, we went to our appointment with the Geneticist, Dr. Link. She
was checking for any genetic or metabolic disorders in Jocelyn. Mom had already talked to her
once in the hospital. All of her tests came back normal and even the test that showed her as
a "starving baby" was actually off because of the supplement we put in her formula. She will
want to see the results of Kirsten's tests, but otherwise we don't need to see her again.
After the doctor appointment we visited dad's work and then came home and took a long nap.
We see and feel two little tiny white bumps on the front bottom gumline for Jocelyn-first teeth!
Kirsten is getting her upper left "fang" tooth coming in.
We took some pictures of the girls on a nice spring day!

May 22, 2003
The girls took a bath this morning. Jocelyn spit up, pulled out her tube and tried to poop. Meanwhile
Kirsten was kicking away and flailing about. It was a long and exhausting bath! It's been nice
out, so the girls get to dress cool!
After the bath

The girls and mom went to their Twins playgroup. It is quite the event with just five moms,
but ten children! This picture has two babies missing!

Jocelyn had her physical therapy appointment. She actually showed Chris what she has been doing
such as getting on all fours and going from flat on the ground to a sitting position. Chris
is very impressed with her progress and feels she is much stronger and very close to crawling.
She tried to get her to crawl several times and Jocelyn gave several objections but kept working
with her. She showed us some techniques to strengthen her arms and legs and also to work on
standing more.
Mom talked to Dr. McPhee on the phone. We have made an appointment with the surgeon again
because of how much Jocelyn is spitting up. Our plan is to schedule the surgery, but talk
to Dr. Terry in two weeks to see if this is the correct move for Jocelyn's situation. All
the girls' blood tests have been ordered so we will get that done tomorrow.
May 23, 2003
Grandma Bauck came to visit today.
The girls and mom went to get all the blood and urine tests that needed to be done for all the
doctors. We went to the Emergicenter by dad's work, Dr. McPhee called in advance so they were
expecting us and we got right in. The girls had to have catheter and then got quite a few tubes
of blood taken from them. By doing it here, the blood goes straight to the main lab because it
is on site and hopefully there will be no mistakes. Dad came over to give some daddy hugs and
the girls watched the fish in the fish tank and all was forgiven.
Later in the evening, we went to Susan & Eric's for a BBQ and the girls were happy rolling in the
grass until 9:00 PM in the evening.
May 25, 2003 - 48 Week Birthday!
Kirsten continues to try all kinds of new foods. She has had toast, egg yolks, baked beans,
avocados, mandarian oranges, melon (she didn't like this), turkey, and cheese. She is very
willing to try new foods although still doesn't eat large quantities. Jocelyn spits everything
out still.
Jocelyn continues to practice trying to crawl. She took two forward crawls this evening on her
own accord.
Both girls favorite new toy is an old plastic spoon mom put in the bottom drawer that Kirsten
likes to get into. All the tupperware in there is great fun!
Jocelyn pulled out her tube again this morning. She took a 4 oz. bottle at noon and was doing well
with her bottle at 6 when an air bubble must have come up as you could hear her spit up everywhere.
She has a very lazy suck now that she hasn't taken a bottle regularly.
May 25, 2003
Mom and the girls went to visit dad at work today. We had lunch at the park and then played.
Kirsten decided she was going to go crawling through the dandelions! She took off and had a
great time looking at the "pretty flowers".

Kirsten thought the swing was great fun. It also helped dad made fun noises while she was swinging.
Her new thing is to stick out her tongue a lot and sure enough she did it while swinging!

Jocelyn got to try the slide for the first time.

Then mom and the girls went shopping for awhile. Many people comment on their helmets. Most
people think that they are to protect their heads, which makes us laugh at how overprotective
they must think we are. Some people stop and ask and they seem surprised at the answer. Basically,
just plastic surgery without the surgery!
May 27, 2003 - The girls are 39 weeks old!/9 months old!
Jocelyn weighs 17 lbs. 9 oz. Blood Pressure 85/40
Mom and the girls walked to Albertsons today to get more formula and enjoy the nice weather.
Mom received free roses from them because "she looked like she deserved it" (they were ones
that were getting old, but will still look good in our kitchen!).
Grandma Bauck came and watched Kirsten while mom took Jocelyn in for her blood pressure and
weight check. It is much easier to do this with just Jocelyn.
Then, Grandma Bauck went with mom and the girls to help with the helmet appointment. Both girls
are showing improvement, but still have a ways to go.
Mom fed Jocelyn through Bolus(gravity) feeds today and had about the same number of spit ups.
Jocelyn was very cranky all day today and never really settled down.
The kitchen has been child proofed. We have put latches on the cabinets and drawers the girls
shouldn't get into. We know this is just to slow them down as it won't take long for the
two of them to figure out how to get the cupboards open through the sheer might of both of them.
May 29, 2003
Mom & the girls had playgroup today. They went for a long walk and dad beat us at home!
After a nap and getting everyone fed, we all went to a party for dad's work. There were many
people there who wanted to see the girls. Unfortunately, there was no grass in the backyard so
they got antsy and we went inside to let them crawl around awhile. The hosts brought out balls
that were great fun for them! Before leaving, we changed them into their nightclothes and
everyone went straight to bed when they arrived home.
May 30, 2003
Mom and the girls went to see the Dudas for another playdate. Dad came home early and we all just
relaxed as a family. Jocelyn threw her second fit of the evening, taking over an hour and a half
to fall asleep, we are not sure what is going on with her.
May 31, 2003
Aunt Kelly arrived today, she will be staying through the girls birthday party.
Today, we got a new car! Probably the car the girls will always remember. We traded in the
Saturn, the first car mom and dad bought together and the car that the girls rode in the first
year. Aunt Kelly stayed with the girls while mom and dad picked up the car.
The girls first car

Mom and dad had free movie tickets that expired at the end of the May, so they called Grandma
Bauck to see if she would watch the girls. We knew Aunt Kelly would be very tired from her trip.
Grandma watched them while mom and dad had a date.
