 Yes, Yes, Yes!
January 25th I played with Brian Gilmore (an excellent poet) last night at Grace Church and had a GREAT time!! Brian read from 2 of his books, primarily the one about Duke Ellington. Even more specifically, Brian read a poem about one of my all-time heroes ... Jimmy Blanton! If you don't know, Blanton literally changed the direction of Jazz bass forever in just a few years (~1940-1941) of playing/recording with Duke, so Brian read while I played from Blanton repertoire. Matter of fact, I was moved to talk briefly about Blanton because of his impact on the bass ... so, you missed a rare opportunity!! All I can say is ... WOW!
April 2nd Ok, it's been a while because there has been a lot of change in my life, for the better! As an example, I moved from a very small studio apartment into a house where you can't see all my stuff at once. Musically, I am blessed to play and record with a LOT of very different and excellent musicians; making people sound their best keeps me on my toes and it sure is fun! I did several recording sessions over the past few months (not under my own name yet), so stay tuned ... some spirit-filled music is forthcoming. |
