For Soccer, we are Division 1, A/AA. Division 1 is mostly public schools (although some private schools have elected to be in this division). Division II is private schools. The A, AA and AAA are further breakdowns based on size (number of students) with A being the smallest. The following is taken from the TSSAA website (click here) and shows the new classifications beginning with the 2009/2010 school year.

A-AA REGION 3 GIRL’S SOCCER BYLAWS (5/18/2009)
1. Each team is required to play every other school in their district that has a TSSAA recognized soccer team by the end of the regular season (see number 2). A forfeit will count as a 3 – 0 win. Games may be rescheduled due to inclement weather. The home team will set the date/time - both teams involved need to, in good faith, make every effort to play the game. If the game is not played prior to the tournament, both teams will take a loss for seeding purposes.
2. All district matches will be complete by the Wednesday before the district tournament.
3. Teams are encouraged, but not required, to schedule as many contests as they wish with the other region (not-district) teams.
4. All teams that participate in the regular season are expected to participate in post-season play. The 3rd Monday in February is the last date in which a district team is required to schedule another district team. If a school is not certain that they will have a varsity team, and has not scheduled by the 3rd Monday in February, they will seed last in the tournament.
5. District Games will be scored as follows: Win = 3 points, Tie = 1 point, Loss = 0 points. The number one seed for the district tournament will have the largest cumulative total points; the second seed will have the second largest cumulative total of points and so on… Note: If teams from a district play more than once during the year, the first regularly scheduled game will count toward tournament seeding. Non-scheduled games that occur during tournaments do not count toward district tournament seeding IF it’s the second time the schools have played OR another game has been regularly scheduled later on in the season.
6. In the event that two teams are tied in points at the end the season ; the following tie-breaker system will be used: a) head to head result b) goal differential in district games (max difference 3) c) total district goals allowed during the season d) total district goals scored during the season (up to 3 per game) e) goal differential in common opponents (max difference 3) f) coin toss
7. The higher seed host in the district and region tournament. A . Four team districts will have no play-in games - five team districts will have one play-in game (4v5) - Six team districts will have two play-in games (3v6 and 4v5). Seven team districts will have three play-in games (2v7, 3v6 and 4v5) while eight team districts will have a complete round of quarter final play (1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5). Each site is responsible for gate money and financial statements to TSSAA and opposing team. B. To host a district or region tournament match the field must be at least 60 yards wide and 105 yards long. C. For district semis and finals, and for region semi and finals, 3 officials will be used unless they cannot be furnished by the assignor.
8. The coach/administrator of the #1 seed will have the responsibility of organizing the district tournament and communicating all tournament information to the other district coaches (this may be done over the phone/email or at a designated pre-tournament meeting.)
9. The tournament director will also be responsible for ordering All-district t-shirts and MVP trophy. Money for these awards will come from the championship game gate. The All-district team numbers are as follows, the number one regular season champion will get 4 players, number 2 will get 3 players, numbers 3 & 4 will get 2 players each and 5 & 6 will get 1 player each. An MVP will be elected by the coaches from the nominations. Names need to be turned in by the Wednesday before the tournament begins.
10. District winners will host a region semi-final match, they will play the runner-up from the other district.
11. The Region championship match will be played at alternating sites as mandated by the TSSAA (odd year - odd region, even – year even region). In the event that two teams from the same district are in the region final, the team with the higher seed will host the match.
12. Gate prices for all tournament matches is $5.00
Guidelines for Regional meetings
Each school may have one representative at the meeting who may vote for that school. The region meeting cannot conduct any business until voting representatives from 2/3 of the school are present. If 2/3 of the representatives are not present, a new meeting will be called at a different time. If the elected chairperson is not present, one will be temporarily elected so the meeting can proceed. The region meeting will take place on the 2nd Wednesday in February. The region chairperson will decide on the location and time of the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to;
1. set tournament dates, times, format and pre-tournament meeting (if needed). 2. Set district and region regular season schedules. 3. Amend by-laws (need a 2/3 vote of the entire membership to be approved) 4. Elect chairperson if needed 5. Discussion of district/region policies and finances (if needed)
