Hank carves each decoy by hand
with traditional methods.
He uses Northern White Cedar, carves with a drawknive and spokeshave. Carving knives are used for the heads. Each decoy is shaped, sanded and hollowed out for weight and wood movement. Boat building epoxy is used to glue the decoy together. The bottom of the bird is branded with HHGarvey. Each bird that Hank hunts over during a season also has the locations recorded on the bottom of the bird. Hank feels strongly that each bird should be hunted over. |
