Frank Chapman was born into a family that eventually had seven children. He quit school in the 3rd grade to work. He cut cross ties for the railroad for a time. Later, he was owner and operator of the Chapman Fuel Company which sold wood, coke, and coal for over thirty years. He also opened a grocery store that was later run by his wife when he died. He was a consistent member of the Second Baptist Church and a mason. His son, James Myles, once remarked to his eldest son, that Frank Chapman, was a very strong, hard-working man. In addition to owning a store selling groceries, coal, and wood, Frank owned various properties around Waycross that he rented. He also owned over 150 acres out in the Jamestown area that was used for raising livestock and tobacco farming. The land also had quite a few pecan trees. His grandchildren can remember many instances of picking up pecans for pies and profit.

James Fleming Chapman was a tall, slender man. He was a farmer early in life, working land with his father and brothers. His granddaughter, Ruth Chapman, remembers him as a thoughtful man who was always writing. He wrote a book, "The Foolishness of Poor Jim" that has two parts. The first part gives his interpretations of the bible while the second gives a collection of his poems. The book is unpublished, but here is one poem to think about: "If a string is tied in a knot, patience will untie it. Patience will accomplish many things. Have you tried it?"

Comment by JMC: The father of James Samuel Harris b. 1875 has also been identified as Bryant B. Johns, the brother of James B. Johns. It certainly seems reasonable that either James or Bryant could be the father of James Samuel Harris since they lived within a few houses of the Harris family. Lucinda at the birth of James Samuel Harris was a month shy of 18, James B was 24, and Bryant was 15y4m. Millicent and Bryant were closer in age. Perhaps the death certificate will identify the actual father. Bryant B. is positively identified as the father based upon family info provided by Dewey Edward Harris, son of James Samuel Harris (III) b. 1901 who was a grandson of Millicent.

James Harris owned a meat shop at the farmers market in Atlanta. He died of a heart attack at an early age of 58. He was a large, heavy set man over 6' tall.

Living in GA, Tattnall, Manassas in 1920.

Addie Docie WILLIS [Parents] was born 7 Nov 1878 in Georgia. She died 30 May 1950 in Ware, GA and was buried in Oakland Cemetary, Waycross, Ware Co., Ga. Addie married James Samuel HARRIS.

She was a small woman only 5' tall. Loved to grow flowers. Purchased flowers wherever she went and then grew them. She also loved to sew and do needle work later in life.
