Note from Albert Harper:
I have traced Arthur Sikes to Appling County, GA through 1840.  He does not show in the 1850 census.  There is some evidence that he moved to Columbia County, Fl. after 1840 but I have not confirmed that.  In the 1840 census he is listed as having one son between the ages of 5 and 10 in his household.   This is probably Arthur, Jr.  He shows up in the 1850 census.  The 1840 census also shows that he had a daughter (probably Mary Jane) in his household in Appling County, GA. (now part of Wayne County) who was between 15 and 20 years of age.  This is consistent with age of Mary Jane Sikes, second wife of Malachai Harper.

He had the following children:

F i Mary Ann Jane SIKES was born about 1821/1822 and died after 1880.
M ii John SIKES was born May 1836 and died about 1900.
