In the name of God Amen. I, William Burney of the County aforesaid, being in perfect health of body and right memory but calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die, do therefore settle my business after the manner hereafter named. First of all I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body to be buried at the discretion of my friends or Executors hereafter named and as to my worldly goods which it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and dispose of in the manner and form following - viz:
After all my just debts be paid and funeral expenses, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth, the manner (Manor) plantation whereon I now live and my black horse with a saddle and bridle.
I give and bequeath to my oldest son, James, one hundred acres of land joining Daniel Shipman lands, near the mouth of the Western Prong, to him, his heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath to my son, William, his heirs and assigns forever, three hundred and twenty acres of land on the west side of Waccamaw Lake and Bogue Swamp.
I give and bequeath to my son, Arthur, his heirs and assigns forever, the one-half of the tract of land whereon my father now lies at the upper end be it more or less.
I give and bequeath to my son, Samuel, his heirs and assigns forever, a tract of fifty acres of land on the west side of the White Oak Pocosin whereon Jeremiah Bigford now lives.
I further give and bequeath to my son, James, fifty acres of land, to him and his heirs forever on the east side of Richland Branch.
I give and bequeath to each of my oldest sons, viz, James, William, and Arthur, one feather bed apiece and furniture.
I likewise give and bequeath after my Father's decease to my above said three oldest sons, his time divided about among them, one negro man named Prince, at this time a boy, and after my decease and my father's for a negro man named Sam to be at his own disposal and not be made a slave, and such chattels as belong to me at this not not to be divided to oldest sons and all the rest of my cattle to be equally divided among all my children. (not not was what it said) ??
I give and bequeath to Mary Taylor one mare, a dark bay with a star in her forehead and a snip on her nose named stockings, and all the rest of my horses and mares I desire they may be equally divided amongst all my children and all the rest of my estate to be equally divided amongst my wife and children.
I do likewise appoint and empower my brother Simon Burney and Duncan King to be my whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament, revoking all other Wills and do confirm this to be my last.
In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this the 13th day of June one thousand seven hundred and eighty three.

Speir by deed dated 7 Apr 1752. Lands on the

1 Sep 1760 William Burney for the natural love and
affection I have and bear unto my three
children, Simon Burney, William Burney, and
Catren Brocke...I do give to my two sons and
daughter, after my death, 180 acres on the lake
being part of the plantation whereon I now live
to my eldest son Simon, 300 acres on Bogue
Swamp to my daughter Catren Brocke, 300 acres
on the east side of the Lake and on Bogue Swamp

and same conveyed to Griffith J. White and
another tract known as the Singletary tract
cont. 25 acres for $1400, it beig part of a
tract patented by Benjamin Fitz Randolph on 9
Sep 1735 and conveyed by him on 7 May 1754 to
William Singletary...for a more particular
description of lst tract, Isaac Wright’s part
of the McRee land to a deed from John McNeill
to him dated 30 May 1805...one other piece
embracing the Spring, not being very far
distant from his dwelling...near the original
line of Division between Isaac Wright’s part
McRee land and that intended for Archibald

sold 30 acres to be laid off by Daniel Campbell
and which has been done and conveyed the same
to Griffith J. White. Another tract lying
above the same known as Singletary
tract...Beginning at upper corner of James
Burney’s land formerly Mathew Rowan and since
known as McRee land and Isaac Wright’s
residence being 250 acres being part of a tract
of land patented by Benjamin Fitzrandolph on 9
Sep 1735 and conveyed by him 7 May 1754 to
William Singletary, from John McNeill to Isaac
Wright 30 May 1805, from Isaac Wright to James
Burney 8 Mar 1833. One other tract not very
distant from his dwelling near division line
between James Burney’s part of McRee land and
that intended for Archd. White...Reservation is
made of enclosure cont. The graveyard of Mr.
Wright’s family which is not intended to be

1 Mar 1840 Simon Burney and his wife Mary Burney to Peter
Monroe and his wife Eliza Monroe...relinquishes
our right and title to 1/3 part of the landed
estate of Joseph Wilson, deceased, included in
5 pieces on the northeast side of Cape Fear
river the lower part being Peter Monroe and his
wife Eliza...possessed by Joseph Wilson at his
death...Simon Burney and Mary his wife is
entitled to 1/3 part as heir at law of said
Joseph Wilson. Wit: M. Monroe, Malcom Evans.

dividding corner..100 acres possessed by Joseph
Wilson at his death ad Peter Monroe and his

be conveyed descended to Peyton Duncan in right

Duncan and wife to Hugh Murphy as will appear
