Indiana is connected to this family in some way. Benjamin's wife, Matilda Purdom Brown and her son William, are living next door to Indiana in the 1870 census.  Matthew, John, Martin, and Benjamin Brown appear to be brothers according to 1870 census for Wayne Co., GA and the 1860 census for Wakulla, FL.

Indiana, Matthew, Martin, Benjamin are all buried at Smyrna Cemetery, Brantly, GA.

Martin Monroe Brown and Benjamin Franklin Brown are brothers and they married sisters.

I believe that Mary Ann Brown who is widowed in 1820 Wayne Co., GA is also somehow connected to Indiana since Indiana names her first child Mary Ann. I suspect that Mary Ann Brown is the grandmother to Indiana. See notes for Indiana.

John's wife is Margaret Robeson according to book, "Cemeteries & More, Genealogy Reference, Bantley County, GA"

Margaret ROBESON was born estimated 1817. She married John BROWN.

They had the following children:

  F i Indiana C. BROWN was born 15 Jul 1837 and died 31 Aug 1915.

? Alexander WILLIS ? [Parents] was born about 1780 in NC.

Likely candidates for the father of James, George, and William are:
1) Alexander (1830 & 1840 Bryan, GA; 1860 New River, FL) and
2) George (1820 Liberty, GA).
I show Alexander as the father since he is living in close proximity to William in the 1860 census.

A likey patriarch to this entire family line is Jacob Willis (1820 Screven, GA)

James and George are brothers based on info provided by Kenneth (Bozo) Willis (Nahunta, GA) and compelling evidence listed below.
George's daughter, Ella Gatsey Willis, married her cousin, William Jasper Willis, and named their son George Washington Willis. Ella G. is shown living with James and Gatsey Willis in the 1880 census and is listed as a niece born in FL.

1880 census: FL, Columbia, 9-Jun-1880
Willis, William W. 47,      GA, NC, NC

Question: Where did Ella and Marietta go?
Answer:  Ella G. Willis is shown living with James and Gatsey Willis in the 1880 census and is listed as a niece born in FL.
This seems to clearly make George and James as brothers. Marietta is not in FL or GA.
