Seaborn JOHNS [Parents] 1 was born 2 1848 in Camden Co., Ga. He married Adaline L. (JOHNS).

Adaline L. (JOHNS) was born 1 1849. She married Seaborn JOHNS.

They had the following children:

  M i
John B. JOHNS 1 was born 2 1875 in Camden Co., GA.
  M ii
James A. JOHNS was born 1877 in Camden Co., GA.
  F iii
Ada L. JOHNS 1 was born 2 1879 in Camden Co., GA.

Jesse LEWIS 1 was born 9 Apr 1790 in Pitt Co., NC. He died 2 28 May 1849 in Wayne Co., GA. Jesse married Millicent ROLLINS before 1812.

Jesse Lewis was born in 1790 in North Carolina. The exact location remains unknown as does the identification of his parents. He married Mildred Rollins, probably in Pitt County, North Carolina, then moved to Georgia after the birth of their second child, probably in 1815. Mildred was born in 1795 in North Carolina. They settled in Wayne County (now Brantley) and became owners of a substantial amount of land there. The probable motivation for the move was the availability of cheap fertile land in Georgia. He may have acquired his land in an early land lottery, or he may have purchased it from one of the lottery winners. He served as Justice of the Wayne County Inferior Court from 1825 until 1829, during which time he was also Tax Collector of Wayne Co. from 1827 through 1829 and in the Wayne County militia from September 15, 1823 until April 17, 1827. He was Justice of the Peace from 1833 until 1837. He and Millie had eleven children, the last nine of whom were born in Georgia.

Although he is buried elsewhere, there is a stone memorial to Jesse Lewis in the Lewis Cemetery in Raybon, Georgia. He and his wife and an infant daughter are buried about five miles away in unmarked graves on a spot near his old home. Jesse died on 28 May 1849. He and his wife and an infant daughter are actually buried about five miles away in unmarked graves near the Smyrna Baptist Church, a spot near his his old home about five miles from the present town of Nahunta.

He moved to south Georgia from North Carolina after 1815. There is a memorial marker to him in the Lewis Cemetery in Raybon, but he is known not to be buried there. He and his wife and an infant daughter are buried about five miles away in unmarked graves near the Smyrna Baptist Church, a spot near his old home about five miles from the present town of Nahunta. He was Justice of the Peace in the 335th District from 1833 through 1837. He was Justice of the Wayne County Inferior Court from 1825 until 1829, and he was Tax Collector of Wayne Co. from 1827 through 1829. He was also in the Wayne County militia from Sept.15, 1823 until April 17, 1827.

No record of his marriage in NC, KY, TN, or VA.

His wife was born in Pitt County, NC and many of his Wayne County
neighbors came from Pitt County, NC (The Highsmiths, e.g.).

Millicent ROLLINS [Parents] "Mildred" 1, 2 was born 3 1795 in Pitt Co., NC. She died 4 Oct 1869 in Wayne Co., GA (Brantley). Mildred married Jesse LEWIS before 1812.

Milly Rollins was the daughter of Charles and Hannah Rollins of Pitt Co., North Carolina. Her name appears variously as Mildred, Millicent, Emily, Amelia. Charles Rollins (possibly Rollings) was evidently a man of considerable means. Milly is named in her father's will. That will provided that $200 be paid to the "lawfully begotten heirs of Milly Lewis." An affidavit filed by James Bryant Lewis, guardian of the Milly's minor children, to claim the inheritance establishes the connection with our Lewis family.

While that will does not exist, there are notes regarding the will and the estate written by Atty. Wm. Blount Rodman (contributed by Elizabeth Ross). These notes were found at East Carolina University in the Joyner Library and provided here by Theodore D. Lewis. The papers of Atty. Rodman are held at the library in Collection #329.14.d.

Milly is listed in the 1870 census although other records show that she died in October of 1869. In that census she is shown living with son William H. Lewis. The spelling of her name in that census is "Millia."

The notes in that East Carolina University collection further indicate that Charles and Hannah Rollins had eight children: John, Lydia, Hannah, Rebecca, Milly, Susannah, Patty, and James W. Rollins. The will mentions a number of slaves: Piney, Simon, Letha, Gatsey, Albert, Miles, Elijah, Annaky, Adam, Linda, Willis, Elijah, and several children. Charles was probably born in 1753 and died in 1843.

Original notes:
Her name may have been Millicent.  Think that the only evidence is the reference to Milly, which has been variously interpreted as Mildred,Millicent, Emily, Amelia, etc.  She is still living in Wayne Co., GA at the time of the taking of the 1870 census. Her name is there spelled Millia.

In notes written by Atty. William Blount Rodman, she was daughter of Charles and Hannah Rollings of Pitt Co., NC.

In 1850 she was living with her son, William H. Lewis in Wayne Co.,GA.

She is still living at the time of the taking of the 1870 Wayne County
census in the home of her son, William H. Lewis in Wayne Co., GA.

The mortuary schedule attached to the 1870 Census of Wayne County,Georgia show that she (Mrs. Millia Lewis, died in October, 1869, age 74 years.

She probably could not read or write.  She had her name misspelled Pashents on deed of 23 Jan 1817 which she signed with a mark.  However, she had 11 children and with her husband established an estate of some 646 acres south of Charleston near Hilton Head.

Email from Jamie:
Hi! Here is what I have on these two individuals and some of the sources I
have on them:

1) +11. Sir Thomas Nathaniel Edwards II (b.14 Oct 1690-Edwards
Hall,Cardiff (Glamorganshire),Wales d.1781-Maryland)
||  | |  |+12. Margaret CUELIN (b.1666 d.1738)

After much research and many email about this, it appears that Sir Thomas
Nathaniel Edwards was married to Isabel (Elizabeth) Downing
also according to the book Captain Bill Book Three - A Genealogy of the
Catawba River Valley of SC.

2) And my records show that Robert Thomas Edwards m. Margaret Cuelin
December 25, 1685 in Glamorgan according to:
Mannie Lee Mabry, Editor, Union County Heritage - South Carolina 1981,
(1981, Union County Heritage Committee, Union, SC,), 73, Author: Mannie Lee
Mabry, Editor

These are really the two individuals that I see I have information about.
Sorry to confuse the issue, but it might be worth it just to check out these
sources and see what you think. The Edwards line out of my 20,000 family
members I have researched is the most inconclusive and hard to document as
fact....it is like no one truly knows or documented the family information!

So if you find anything different, please let me know!

Happy Researching!

Sincerely,
Jaime
