Mr. W. C. Westberry Honored With Surprise Birthday Party - Miss Lois Westberry was gracious hostess to a surprise birthday party last Friday night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Westberry which was given in honor of Mr. Westberry's forty-fifth anniversary. As the guests assembled they were entertained with old time square dancing which was enjoyed by fifty guests who participated in the celebration. During the intermission the hostess served refreshments, together with a large birthday cake which was cut and served. Mr. Westberry, the honoree received several nice gifts during the party. Old time music was furnished by Messrs. Harry Tyre, John Williams, Rufus Roberson, Willard Priester and Kennon Ward.

Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Westberry and Mrs. Nathan Poppell and son have returned from Miami, Fla. where they attended the funeral of their relative, little Jocelyn Westberry, who was killed by a train near that city.

W. C. Westberry Is Honored On 60th Birthday. In honor of the sixtieth birthday of her father, W. C. Westberry, Mrs. Nathan Poppell entertained Sunday, April 24 with a delightful birthday dinner. The house was decorated with beautiful spring flowers. The table was centered with a beautiful cake which contained sixty candles. Miss Betty Surrency and Shearly Copeland greeted the guests at the door and made them welcome, presenting the guest book to them which they signed and all wished him many more happy birthdays to come. Those assisting Mrs. Poppell in entertaining were Miss Frankie Surrency and Mrs. Cecil Surrency. Guests were Mrs. Q. B. Rogers, Mrs. Donny Thompson of Avon Park, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Surrency, Frankie Surrency, Mrs. E. E. Surrency, Mrs. Rader Thompson, Mrs. Edna Cameron, Shirley Copeland, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. W. C. Westberry Honored On 61st Birthday Sunday. An old-time get-together and birthday dinner was given Sunday, April 23 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Poppell's in honor of Mrs. Poppell's father's sixty-first birthday, Mr. W. C. Westberry. The table was spread out on the lawn and was centered with a huge birthday cake containing 61 candles. Pictures were made of the table and guests as they enjoyed the food and occasion together. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Westberry, Mrs. Betty Tripp and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Burl Westberry and family, Mr. Alvin Roberson, Mrs. Myrtle Tyre and children, Mr. Royce Courson, Miss Mable Fowler, Mrs. Katie Surrency and son, Mrs. Mary Surrency, Mrs. D. M. Hodge and son Freddie, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Scott, Rev. and Mrs. F. H. W. C. Westberry Buried Yesterday. William Colmon Westberry, 77, of Route 1, Odum, died Sunday morning at his residence after a long illness. The Wayne County native was a retired carpenter, a member of the Jesup Masonic Lodge #112 F.&A.M. and a member of the Flint Branch Baptist Church. He donated the land for the Flint Branch Baptist Church and cemetery. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Nathan Poppell of Odum, Mrs. Richard Stewart of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Fred Shortz of Priest River, Idaho; two sons, Edwin and Haron Westberry of Miami, two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Ruff of Daytona Beach and Mrs. Donnie Thompson of Avon Park, Fla.; a brother, Port Westberry of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Flint Branch Baptist Church with Elder M. S. Cameron and Elder Linton Williams officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Elmo Keith, Edward Gordon, J. L. Gordon, Sr., J. L. Gordon, Jr., Ernest Surrency and R. L. Poppell. The Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
