Wheeler Peak, New Mexico
Elevation: 13,161 feet
Mileage: 6.2 miles
Vertical Gain: 3,550 feet
Route: Williams Lake Trail

September 20-21, 2002

Wheeler Peak is the highest mountain in New Mexico and ranks 12th hardest of the 50 highpoints. Wheeler Peak is located just outside Taos near the Taos Ski Valley resort. From Taos proceed to Taos Ski Valley. Once at the resort continue through the parking lot and then turn left near the campgrounds. From here take a quick right onto Twining Road and follow that to Zap's Cutoff and turn left. Follow this all the way to the Willims Lake trailhead.
