-- 2010 Match results --

5/20/10:      Hixson  0     Boyd Buchanan  3

Hard fought match - your Wildcats gave a great effort - 100% the entire match.  Very proud of the way we played.  Good team soccer.  It was an even match with both teams having chances in the first half.  Boyd finally broke through with 6:43 remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into half time.  The second half played very even again for the first 20 minutes.  Then Boyd scored on a nice header off a set piece to take a 2-0 lead.  The final goal came on a breakaway with only 2:53 left in the match (there were some - me included -  who felt an off-sides was missed here, but.....).  Great match by both teams.  Very worthy of a Region finals.  Congratulations Wildcats, even in a loss, you made yourselves proud by giving 100%.  Let's beat CCS on Saturday !!!!!!

5/18/10:      Hixson  3     McMinn Central  0

An interesting match.  A first half goal by Sher off of a McMinn defender gained us a slender 1-0 half time lead.  Seemed like we were not really interested in playing during the first half as we gave away a lot of 50-50 balls.

We settled down and began to play during the second half and started to take our opponent a little more seriously.  Goals by Jonathan and David gave us our 3-0 margin.  Steven and the defense again provided a shutout (their 13th).   The quality of play fell off after that as McMinn was hit with 2 yellow cards, a red card, and a yellow card for their coach.

Region Finals against Boyd are at Hixson at 7.  Come out and support your Wildcats.

5/14/10:      Hixson  1     East Ridge  0

A true championship match with both teams playing hard, giving their all.  Jacob got the winning goal about halfway through the 1st half, and your defense made it hold up.  Steven had 2 great saves, and was assisted by Dennis, Nau and Mark who were also credited with saves on the goal line, all to preserve our 12th shutout of the season.  Amazing offensive runs and strong defensive play marked the entire match.  Outstanding TEAM effort!!

5/11/10:      Hixson  4     Red Bank  0

Great effort, full 80 minutes of hard/smart play against a Red Bank team you only beat 1-0 during the season.  You guys were AWESOME!!!!!

Super defense recorded their 11th shutout of the season.  Congratulations to Dennis, Kevin, Mark, David and Steven!  Nau and the midfielders were everywhere, and Sher kept their defenders busy with long speedy attacks.

Nau got us started in the 7th minute with his first goal.  Sher got his goal with13 minutes left in the half.  Nau quickly recorded his second goal at the 9 minute mark, and Fluffy closed out the scoring with 2 minutes remaining in the first half.  Assists were by Jacob, Justin and Sher.  Thanks to his defense, Steven only had to make 1 save, but he also came out quickly several times (5 stops) to halt potential attacks.

Great match Hixson!!!!  District Finals against East Ridge on Thursday at 7.  Come out and support your Wildcats!!!!!

5/8/10:      Hixson  11     Brainerd  0

1st round district match against Brainerd.

Goals by:  Jawaad Sheikh (3), David Parras, Dennis Miller, Denzel Swain, Jonathan Martinez, Josh Kimbrough, Kendrick Payton, Kevin Carrillo, Mauricio Moreno.

Assists by:  Ameer Jibrin (2), Bobby Rogers, Chris Bovell, Denzel Swain, Jacob Barber, Justin Mathieson and Levi Brewster.

Steven had no on-goal shots taken at him.  Next match is Tuesday at 7 at Hixson against Red Bank.

5/8/10:      Hixson  12     Bledsoe Co  2

Beautiful evening for honoring our "5" seniors:  Dennis, Kevin, Mark, Kendrick and Hector.  Thank you seniors for your leadership, commitment and passion for Hixson soccer.  You will be missed.

Final match goals were by:  Sher (2), Nau (2), Mark (2), Kevin, Kendrick, Justin, Denzel, Dennis, and Ameer.  Assists were by:  Andrew, Desmond, Denzel, Jacob and Justin.

Dennis was defensive stop leader with 5.  Steven was not scored upon during his play in goal in the first half.

Great closing match.  Lets get ready for the District starting tomorrow at Hixson against Brainerd at 1.  GO WILDCATS.

5/5/10:      Hixson  3      Brainerd  0

Forfeit.

5/4/10:      Hixson  3      East Hamilton  2

Regular season Champions!!!!!  Goals by Nau, Jacob and Fluffy with an assist by Nau.  Steven had 3 saves in goal (Nau had 1).  Dennis led all defenders with 9 stops and a GREAT team effort by everyone.  Congratulations WILDCATS!!!!  Best season in years!

4/29/10:      Hixson  1      Red Bank  0

Sher got our goal in the second half off of an assist by Nau.  Steven had 3 saves in goal.  All around MUCH better effort by everyone.

The first half was a little slow, but we held a good team scoreless.  We came out much stronger in the second half (outshot them 8-4 in 2nd) and generally kept the play in their half.  They did have some dangerous long ball runs, but they were all turned back by our defense.  Dennis in particular had an outstanding night.

Great match after a few lackluster performances.  Way to step up Hixson - keep  it up.  GO WILDCATS

Next match is Tuesday against East Hamilton at Hixson at 7.

4/27/10:      Hixson  1      Ooltewah  3

Nau got our goal in the second half off of a PK.  Shots were 19 Ooltewah and 17 Hixson.  Steven had 9 saves in goal.

4/22/10:      Hixson  1      East Ridge  1

(see write-ups in Times and Chattanoogan)

1st half:  .....................

2nd half:  Great effort - lots of hustle and a desire to win the ball.  Controlled most of the half and even had one goal called back (got to watch those off-sides).  Beautiful center/assist by Jacob lead to a great header goal by Sher.  Steven made a couple of great saves.

Perhaps not our best week.  Hopefully we can refocus and finish out the rest of the season strong.

Next match is Monday vs. Ooltewah at Hixson at 7 - BE THERE!!!!

4/20/10:      Hixson  1      Central  0

Guess it was not surprising to have a let-down after the big win at Baylor.  Also, the heavy rain and wet/muddy field (about an inch of standing water) did not help us.  To Central's credit, they do play hard and are quite aggressive.  However, we were able to adjust our game and ended up controlling the flow of the match ( I saw it about 80-20 % in our favor).  Shots were 23-0 in our favor (another indication of our dominance).  Nau got an assist off of a nice corner to Sher who finished it nicely in the net.  The half ended 1-0.

The second half saw several good chances go unrealized by Jacob, Nau, Sher and Fluffy.   Our defense only allowed Central in our end of the field a few times in the second half, and Steven didn't even get to touch the ball.  All in all, a good effort under very adverse conditions, and a victory on a "bad" night.  Good teams find a way to win when things are not going their way.  GO WILDCATS!!

10-0-0,   3-0-0 in district and important match coming up Thursday against East Ridge at Camp Jordan at 7pm

4/17/10:      Hixson  1      Baylor  0

Best match of the year!!!  100% effort from every player for the full 80 minutes.  Tremendous back and forth flow to the match with Baylor holding a slight edge, but with neither team being able to put together a decisive attack.  The half ended 0-0 with Baylor holding a small 8-5 shot advantage.

The second half maintained the same flavor and pace with neither team able to break through against determined defenses.  Finally, Fluffy got the ball near the Baylor 18 and after some fancy back and forth ball movement, was able to get off the game winning shot.

Steven had 10 saves in goal, the defense turned back attack after attack while our offense kept pressure on their goal until we broke through. Total team effort - very proud of the WILDCATS!!!

Next match is Tuesday against Central at Central at 5pm.

4/15/10:      Hixson  4      Sweetwater  3

Strong 50 minutes, great 50 minutes.........but, then there was those pesky last 30 minutes.  Both teams answered that 50 minute bell, we heard it as a closing bell, Sweetwater heard it as a starting bell.  Well, a lesson learned.  Even the greatest of teams have off nights.  The trick is to survive them, learn from them, and move on.  We did, and I know we will!

The first half was awesome!!  We outshot them 13 to 3, outscored them 3-0, and generally controlled the flow of the match.  Sher got us started with a goal off of a nice feed from Justin.  Fluffy took a ball at midfield and dribbled down through several defenders before netting our second goal and Chris ended the half with his score.

The second half also started well with Sher getting his second goal off of an assist from Nau.  In the last 30 minutes, we slowed down and made some correctable mistakes.

Next match is Saturday at 3 at Baylor.   GO WILDCATS!!

4/13/10:      Hixson  4      Rhea Co.  0

Another shutout!!!  5th of the year, way to go defense!!!  Also, got to give a lot of credit to the offense for keeping the ball in Rhea's end of the field for much of the match.   Fluffy got us started in the first 6 minutes off of an assist by Jorge.  Chris next netted a nice feed from Nau.  Justin finished up the first half scoring (his first match back after the wrestling injury) off of an assist from Sher.

The second half was very well played with our defense stopping a couple of Rhea attacks.  Fluffy got his second goal off of another assist from Nau (his second of the night).  Steven made two saves in goal and is allowing less than 1/2 point per match.  Next match is Thursday against Sweetwater - come out and see your Wildcats play....

3/30/10:      Hixson  5      Sequatchie Co.  0

Great effort, 100% from everyone.  Steven (2 saves) and his defense pitched another shutout - way to go Dennis, David, Mark and Kevin - you guys RULE!!  Nau and Jorge had particularly strong games in the middle and Sher got his "hat-trick".  Good effort from Chris and Jacob.  Goals were:  Sher (3), Nau and Jorge.  Fluffy got 2 assists and Ameer had one.   Shot count was 31-9.

If you guys can keep up this level of effort and commitment, you are in real danger of being a great team - Go Wildcats.

3/29/10:      Hixson  3       Bradley Central  0

It took a half for us to catch on that the field was very slippery - we lost our footing too many times trying to cut quickly to the ball, or plant for a shot.  But we did learn.  They played well and held us 0 - 0 at half.  Shots were 8-5 at halftime in our favor, but clearly a close match.  We were not winning enough of the 50-50 balls.

After the half we seemed to settle down and played much better.  Winning more balls and passing to OUR teammates (for a change).  Fluffy scored first (5 minutes into the half) off of an assist by Sher.  Jorge put in a beautiful header off of an assist by Nau with 15 minutes remaining in the match.  Just one minute later, Kevin gave Nau a great pass that Nau finished for the last goal.  Steven continued his solid play in goal (even though he did not get challenged too much tonight - that's a good thing!).  Great defensive play by Dennis (our senior captain) at sweeper - he also had a couple of really good offensive runs.  Nau was everywhere in the middle.  Kevin started several good attacks from his stopper position and played very solid.  Great defensive work from David and Mark.  Tremendous work against a good team - congratulations and GO WILDCATS!!!!

3/25/10:      Hixson  8       CSAS  1

Another strong match.  Great effort by everyone.  The team is making it difficult to single out individuals (and, yes, that is a very good thing!).  Strong defensive play from Dennis, David, Mark and Kevin - in fact, Steven really did not even get to see the ball until late in the match.  Shots were 35 - 2.  Nau very active in the middle, strong runs from Sher.......OK, I give, I can't keep going thru the roster - all played great, and as a Team!!!  Way to go, WILDCATS!!

Goals by:  Ameer Jibrin, Chris Bovell, Jacob Barber, Jonathan Martinez, Mauricio Moreno and the Hat Trick by Nau Alvarez (3).

Assists by:  David Parras, Mauricio Moreno, Nau Alvarez and Sher (3) - great work Sher!!

3/23/10:      Hixson  4       Grace  0

Great, dominating effort.....  Jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 4 minutes with goals by Sher (2) from nice crosses by Fluffy.  Jacob got the third from an assist from Sher.  Grace then settled down some and upped their defense a bit.  The half ended 3-0.  We came out stronger in the second half with Nau dominating the middle.  Many strong attacks clearly shown by a 30-4 shot count.  Really proud of the defense lead by Dennis (a senior captain who can play anywhere on the field).  Mark, David, and Kevin keep almost all the action away from Steven ( who had another strong game in goal).  Fluffy scored our final goal after being fouled in the box.

Great match - Go Wildcats !!

3/19/10:      Hixson  3       Signal Mt  2

Both Varsity and JV matches against  SM.  JVs got the night started with a good effort.  Lots of playing time and some really good soccer - Great work guys (a 3-1 victory) and Denzel got his first goal!

The varsity started at 7 and SM lets us know early that they were going to be tough.  They jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and held it to halftime.  After some "gentle" coaching halftime suggestions, we decide to ignore the "chatter" from the opposition and concentrate on playing up to our ability.   The second half was MUCH better.  More concentration and less listening to the other team.  Sher responded with 2 goals and Nau had 1.  Chris, Mauricio and Nau has assists.  Steven was solid in goal recording 8 saves.  Dennis, Kevin, Mark and David all had quality performances on defense.  Great effort!!!!!

3/16/10:      Hixson  8       Tyner  0

Good start against a very young Tyner program.  We got off to a quick start and built a 6-0 halftime lead with a lot of folks seeing playing time.  The second half saw most of the starters resting and a really good performance by the underclassmen.  A lot of the guys got a chance to show what they could do in a game environment.   Great work!  Goals were scored by Sher (2), Kendrick (2), Chris, Desmond, Mauricio and Nau.  Assists were by Dennis, Jacob, Kevin and Mauricio.   Steven got his first High School shutout in goal.  Great match, now lets get ready for Signal mountain on Friday.
