James Butler, son of Samuel, was christened on June 13, 1773. From all indications in the Bottisham parish records, he was born, lived and died in the area of Bottisham-Lode, England. He was buried on September 20, 1836. James was a daylaborer.

James first married on May 3, 1795 at Bottisham, England to Elizabeth Taylor. Witnesses to their marriage were William Northfield and Stephen Osborn. She died on or about August 11, 1799.

James and Elizabeth had two children.

  1. James Butler was buried on March 24, 1799.
  2. John Butler was christened on November 4, 1798. He was buried on March 24, 1799.

James married for the second time at Bottisham, England on November 1, 1802 to Sarah Craske, daughter of Samuel Craske and Susanna -?-. Witnesses to their marriage were Samuel Stubbins and Samuel Craske. Sarah was christened on April 16, 1780 at Bottisham, England. She was buried on June 1, 1859 in the Lode Churchyard at Lode, England.

James and Sarah had nine children.

  1. Sarah Butler was christened on February 12, 1803. She probably died prior to 1818.
  2. Samuel Craske Butler was christened on May 4, 1806. He died on June 21, 1886.
  3. Elizabeth Butler was christened on April 2, 1809. She was buried on November 1, 1809.
  4. Elizabeth Butler was christened on September 30, 1810. She was buried on January 9, 1811.
  5. John Craske Butler was christened on April 25, 1813. He was buried on June 4, 1837 at Lode, England.
  6. Ann Butler was christened on April 7, 1816.
  7. Sarah Butler was christened on February 7, 1818. She may have been buried on January 26, 1853.
  8. James Butler was christened on February 7, 1819. He died on or about February 14, 1819.
  9. James Butler was christened on March 7 ,1824. He was an agricultural laborer.

Unless otherwise indicated, all of James" children were christened, married or buried at Bottisham, England.
