Dominique Gruss and Anne Marie Kösler's Family

Dominique Gruss, son of André, was born on October 8, 1748 in Ensisheim, France. He was baptized on the same day in Saint-Martin's Catholic Church. He died on December 26, 1805 at Negbourg au Rhin (Neuenburg).

Dominique married on February 8, 1776 at Ensisheim, France in Saint-Martin's Catholic Church to Anne Marie Kösler, daughter of Jacob Kösler and Elisabeth Schmitt. Anne Marie died on September 4, 1788 at Negbourg au Rhin (Neuenburg). The date and place of her birth are presently unknown. However, it appears from her marriage registration that she was born in Negbourg au Rhin. Among the witnesses to Dominique and Anne Marie's marriage there is mentioned Dominique's father and brother. The same marriage record stated that Anne Marie's parents were living in Negbourg au Rhin (Neuenburg).

Hervé Patry indicated in a letter dated February 14, 1997 that Dominique had married a second time. However, he did not give any details about the marriage or Dominique's second wife. He reported that she was still living in 1810.

Dominique and Anne had at least two children.

  1. Dominique Gruss was born on October 24, 1776 at Oberensisheim, (modern day Ensisheim) France. He died on October 11, 1852 at Guémar, France.
  2. Diebald Gruss was born about 1779. He was mentioned as a witness to the marriage of his brother, Dominique. From this document, we learn that Diebald lived at Horbourg, France, was a tile maker by profession and was then thirty-two years of age. By his own admission, Diebald was unable to write.
