Fra. Antoine Spiegel and Marie Madelena Stockel's Family

François Antoine Spiegel, son of Joseph Spiegel, was born on May 24, 1797 {5 Prairial 5} at Ohnenheim, France. He died at the age of sixty-five on February 13, 1861 at Guémar, France. During his lifetime, François Antoine was a domestic for several farmers in the Guémar area, a farmer and a gravedigger.

François Antoine first married at Guémar, France on May 21, 1822 to Marie Madelena Stockel, daughter of Joseph Stockel and Madelaine Fuchs. Among the witnesses listed for their marriage was François Joseph Spiegel, the groom's brother. Marie Madelena was born on March 25, 1796 {5 Germinal 4} at Guémar, France. She died on January 30, 1838 at Guémar, France.

François Antoine and Marie Madelaine had four children, all of whom were born at Guémar, France. The family lived on the Rue Fritiggass. It is interesting to note that on a plan of the village of Guémar for the year 1830, François' home is located behind a cemetery.

1. Marie Magdelena Spiegel who was born on October 10, 1827. She died about May 1895.
2. Josephine Spiegel who was born on April 19, 1830.
3. Unnamed daughter who was stillborn on December 14, 1831.
4. Elizabeth Spiegel who was born on October 6, 1834. She died on October 10, 1834 at Guémar, France.

François Antoine married a second time at Guémar, France on November 7, 1838 to Marie Anne Vogel, daughter of Antoine Vogel and Marie Anne Schirm. Among the witnesses to their marriage were listed François Joseph Spiegel, the groom's brother, Leger Vogel, the bride's brother and Alexander Spiegel, for whom no relationship to François Antoine is given. Marie Anne was born on May 1, 1813 at Guémar, France. She died on April 28, 1847 at Guémar, France.

François Antoine and Marie Anne had five children, all of whom were born at Guémar, France.

1. Charles Vogel who was born on August 12, 1836. His birth registration showed the name given. At the time of François Antoine's death, Charles used Spiegel as his family name to report the death and show his relationship to François Antoine as son. At the end of the marriage registration for François Antoine and Marie Anne Vogel there is a paragraph in which they acknowledge Charles as their child.
2. François Antoine Spiegel who was born on September 13, 1839.
3. Marie Anne Spiegel who was born on July 26, 1841. She died on February 8, 1846 at Guémar, France.
4. Caroline Spiegel who was born on October 26, 1843.
5. Louise Spiegel who was born on December 20, 1845.

For a third time, François Antoine married at Guémar, France on January 12, 1848 to Amelia Josephine Fridblatt, daughter of Jean Baptiste Fridblatt and Marie Cecelie Rumpler. Among the witnessess to their marriage there was listed François Joseph Spiegel, the groom's brother. Amelia was born on March 3, 1812 at Guémar, France. She died on May 4, 1855 at Guémar, France.

François Antoine and Amelia Josephine had three children, all of whom were born at Guémar, France.

1. Joseph Spiegel who was born on June 20, 1849. He died on March 13, 1850 at Guémar, France.
2. Marie Ursula Spiegel who was born on February 5, 1851.
3. Emile Spiegel who was born on August 14, 1852.
