George Curtis Gleason Lois Johnson Gleason

George Curtis Gleason, son of Harvey, was born on September 10, 1896 at Audubon, Iowa. He died on January 29, 1962 at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa after undergoing surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a member of the Methodist Church. George attended the Omaha public schools. He was a successful farmer, cattle feeder and dairyman. George was an active member of the Audubon County Beef Producers Association and for several years belonged to the Audubon Volunteer Fire Department.

George’s World War I draft registration card, which was dated June 5, 1918, tells us that he was born on the date cited above. He was employed by the Audubon Clay Products Co. He was of medium height and built He had brown eyes and black hair. He was living in Ravenna, Nebraska.

According to the information contained on the 1915 Iowa State census card, George had only an eighth grade education, was employed as a farm hand and had been living in Iowa for the previous five years. He earned three hundred dollars ($300.00) in 1914.

On September 11, 1926, George purchased from N.G. and Agnes Kraschel the following parcel of land:

"Lot Two(2)of the West Half of Southwest Quarter of Southwest Quarter of Northeast Quarter (W1/2, SW1/4, SW1/4, NE1/4) Section Twenty one, Township Eighty (80) N. Range Thirty-five (35)West 5ht. P.M. City of Audubon, Iowa"

George married on January 30, 1926 at Adel, Iowa to Lois Johnson, daughter of Ray Johnson and Edith Emery. Lois was born on January 4, 1907 at Audubon, Iowa. She was a hair dresser (beautician) by profession prior to her marriage to George. The 1930 United States census return for Audubon, Iowa gave Lois' occupation as manager of a beauty shop. She died on February 10, 2000 at Audubon, Iowa. She was buried on February 15, 2000 in Maple Grove Cemetery at Audubon, Iowa.

According to the information contained on the 1915 Iowa State census card, Lois was affiliated with the Methodist church. The 1925 Iowa State census reports that Lois had completed twelve years of schooling.

George and Lois had six children, all of whom were born at Carroll, Iowa. Only three of the children survived.

  1. Ida Edith Gleason was born and died on April 22, 1934. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Audubon, Iowa.
  2. Everett and Louise Brown Louise Kay Gleason was born at Carroll, Iowa.

    She married on June 24, 1956 at Brayton, Iowa to Everett Peter Brown, son of Peter Brown and Marie [family name unknown]. Everett is a retired bank president.

    Louise and Everett have three children.

    1. Anthony Allen Brown was born at Ames, Iowa. He owns and operates an office supply store in Carroll, Iowa.

      He married on October 21, 1978 to Cindy Kay Muell, daughter of Peter Muell. Cindy was born at Missouri Valley, Iowa.

      Anthony and Cindy have two children, both of whom were born at Birmingham, Alabama.

      1. Timothy Allen Brown.
      2. Peter Joseph Brown.

    2. Rachel Ann Brown was born at Grundy Center, Iowa.

      She married on September 1, 1983 to Rene Engelhardt. Rene was born at Copenhagen, Denmark.

      Rachel and Rene have three children, all of whom were born at Columbus, Ohio.

      1. Ben Engelhardt.
      2. Marie Louise Engelhardt.
      3. Heidi Lynn Engelhard.

    3. Curtis Dean Brown was born at Boone, Iowa. He is a banker by profession.

      He married on August 12, 1962 at Boone, Iowa to Cherie Lynn Dinsmore. Cherie was born at Missouri Valley, Iowa.

      Curtis and Cherie have three children.

      1. Nolan Everett Brown was born at Omaha, Nebraska.
      2. Holly Suzanne Brown was born at Omaha, Nebraska.
      3. Austin Eugene Brown was born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

  3. Richard and Lela Gleason Richard Brooks Gleason was born at Audubon, Iowa.

    He married on May 5, 1956 to Lela Mae Schmidt, daughter of Richard George Schmidt and Alma Nissen. Lela was born at Audubon, Iowa.

    Richard and Lela have four children.

    1. Debra Lea Gleason. She is the deputy assessor for Audubon County, Iowa.

      She married on 16 March 1979 at Audubon, Iowa to Dan Umland, son of Willis Umland and Thelma Lacy. Dan was born at Audubon, Iowa. He is a manager of a farm implements dealership in Audubon, Iowa.

      Debra and Dan have three children.

      1. Stacey Lea Umland. Stacey married Anthony Barber on September 2, 2006.
      2. Michelle Lea Umland.
      3. Michael Eugene Umland.

    2. Douglas Brooks Gleason. He is a farmer by profession.

      He married on October 15, 1977 at Audubon, Iowa to Vilinda Jo Clemsen, daughter of Virgil Clemsen and Violet Fancher. Vilinda was born at Carroll, Iowa. She owns a craft store in Audubon, Iowa.

      Douglas and Vilinda have three children.

      1. Dustin Brooks Gleason.

        He married on August 5, 2000 at Audubon, Iowa to Andrea Lane Vorm.

        Dustin and Andrea have one child.

      3. Chad Douglas Gleason.

    3. Amy Jo Gleason. She is a registered nurse.

      She married on May 30, 1980 to Jeffery Dale Knights, son of Dale Knights and Karen Korwes. He was born at Storm Lake, Iowa. He runs an auto sales / glass repair business.

      Amy and Dale have two children.

      1. Jesse Dale Knights was born on April 9, 1962 at Audubon, Iowa. He died on September 25, 2000 at Grand Mesa, Colorado.
      2. Elizabeth Jo Knights. Elizabeth married Adam Tucker.

        Elizabeth and Adam one child.

    4. Sue Ann Gleason.

      She first married on November 28, 1987 to Scott Eugene Alt, son of Eugene Alt and Mary Lou Hagedon. He was born at Audubon, Iowa.

      Sue and Scott have two children.

      1. Garret Scott Alt.
      2. Austin Brooks Alt.

      Sue married a second time on September 8, 2001 to Brad Essick.

      Sue and Brad have one child.

  4. Norma Jean Gleason was born at Audubon, Iowa.

    She married on October 16, 1960 at Audubon, Iowa to Marvin Frederick Davis, son of Curits Davis and Leona Baldat. Marvin was born on September 6, 1941 at Audubon, Iowa. He died on August 5, 2002 at Wentzville, Missouri.

    Norma Jean and Marvin have two children.

    1. Michelle Janene Davis. She married on July 24, 1982 at Florissant, Missouri to Neil James Feldhaus.

      Michelle and Neil adopted two children on April 11, 1989.

      1. Alex James Feldhaus was born in Columbia, South America.
      2. Hailey Maria Feldhaus was born in Columbia, South America.
    2. Todd Patrick Davis.

  5. Edna Gleason was born and died on September 26, 1944. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Audubon, Iowa.
  6. Berth Gleason was born and died on September 26, 1944. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Audubon, Iowa.
